The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

You can also buy replacement tripod feet - there's one in classifieds here, though I went for a cheaper one via Aliexpress as I wanted a hole to put a peak design loop thing for straps. Strongly recommend, much better than the Sony one. I don't understand why they keep producing them without...

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Does anyone have ff and apsc E mount? Back in the A mount days I had A900s plus an A77 for wildlife, mostly due to the better AF. Mirrorless wise I've always been ff (A7iii, these days A9) but A6xxx crop up in classifieds every now and again and wonder if the crop sensor is worthwhile? I'm...

Bugs Green beetle (rose chafer?) reflecting on life

Just remembered I took some BTS shots. Extra tip - use a lens cloth to rest the end of the lens on the acrylic so you can slide it forward without scratching the acrylic. It scratches super easy and it takes ages to remove them in post!

Bugs Green beetle (rose chafer?) reflecting on life

We found this beautiful green beetle (I believe it’s a Rose Chafer) on our front step so couldn’t resist but get out the camera gear to try to capture him. Ushered him onto a leaf to get him inside then placed on a shiny sheet of black acrylic I have especially of these kinds of shoots. Got the...

    Getting over my prime snobbery

I’m on a hiking weekend in wales in May and starting to plan the lenses to take. My challenge is I’m a real prime lens snob. Telephoto end aside, I love using primes. My go to wedding bag is 24, 35, 85 and 135, typically with 35 and 135 on the bodies most of the times. I did the Yorkshire 3...

    Recommend me a 100-400 combo

Agreed. I shoot exclusively on A9s and very happy with landscapes. Briefly had A9 and A7Riii but prefer simplicity of having same controls on both.

    Recommend me a 100-400 combo

New 100-400 currently on offer at Cotswoldcameras for £1499, then there’s the A9 in the classifieds with the £1k asking price. In budget Edit: oh how disappointing, I didn’t realise Cotswold were grey imports. Ignore above.

    Recommend me a 100-400 combo

The A9 can be had around £1,100 (think there might be one in classified as present actually). Then the Sony 100-400 can be had for £1,400 (a decent one here for 1,499; a dusty one without hood here for £1,189, before even looking at classified or ebay). I know you said you wanted 100mm, but...

Forget GAS for cameras -- how about those bags?!

After years of lowepro bags, I moved to peak design 4-5 years ago. Wouldn’t consider anything else now. Have 5ltr sling, 6ltr sling, 15ltr messenger, 20ltr everyday and 30ltr everyday. Just added the tech pouch. Everything they do is the perfect intersection of functionality, comfort...

Non UK Anyone been on a Nordic Fjord Cruise..??

Yeah, key tip on a cruise - don't do the tours! They tend to cost considerably more than booking locally, and seem to assume everyone wants to prioritise eating and gift shops over the actual sightseeing! In Iceland we did a tour with 2 hours for lunch and 2x 30 minutes in a gift shop...

Non UK Anyone been on a Nordic Fjord Cruise..??

Have done 4 or 5 cruises to the fjords, one which also headed over to Iceland and Svalbard. Agree with other comments when they say not to worry about which side of the boat you’re on, really doesn’t matter. Of all the ports we’ve been to, Olden is my absolute favourite - and most cruises do...

1/3rd Of The Way In, Infinity or Stacking?

I used to, but find it quite unreliable with wide angle shots. That's on my Sony A9 anyway. Focus zoom is generally safer

    LCE.

Spot on. LCE run a day at Goodwood each year with Sony which is a great chance to chat and play with different glass and bodies, and build a relationship with the staff. Only made it to Goodwood event once, but aside from second hand sections on here, have pretty much exclusively bought from...

Milkyway and Perseids meteor above Gran Canaria

Had a family holiday in Gran Canaria last week and snuck off one night into the mountains to capture the milky way and hopefully some Perseids meteors from above the light pollution. Terrifying driving up the winding paths (though in some ways nice *not* being able to see over the edge!) but...
