If you don't have enough light hitting the sensor you will have inherent noise there which you just amplify with the ISO setting.

You have some artifact in the feathers there probably from too much noise reduction. There are way to avoid this

Plug the drive in then open up the Disk Utility app - you should see the drive there but greyed out - select the "mount " option in the top right hand corner - and you should then be able to see the drive in Finder and access it. Interested in how you are doing this as my understanding was different. Are you saying that if you have AF assigned to the shutter button the camera autofocuses when you hit the remote shutter?

Kinda depends on your subject I guess - what will you be shooting with the remote? I use 2 back button AF - I have one button for tracking and one for static and you can also use the rear screen to focus (and NOT shoot). Which intervalometer/remote are you using? I have a feeling you may have to...

R8 and R5 great with RF lenses FWIW.
