Second is beautiful, but I'd pick number 3. It could benefit from being a little warmer (like number 2) but the pose has more attitude and character :O)

I like the look on the second one. Lions seem to have two looks "magnificent but bored" and "I might be able to eat that". Number 2 is definitely look hungry.

Ahh yes, but do you ever manage to see the star in the viewfinder to make sure its included? For me, I can tell where the north star is, but then when I look in the viewfinder or live view I can't tell if it is actually in shot or not (hence the guesswork :) It occurs to me that I might try...

I took this last year from the highest point on Eilean Shona in Scotland. Its an amalgation (in Photoshop) of 399 28 second exposures (f4.0 ISO3200 Sigma 10-20 at 10mm). I love it as it is (which is why I'm posting it :) but does anyone have any advice on how to make the star trails more...

As well as the focussing screen, bigger brighter viewfinders. Its how you see what you're photographing, but doesn't get much attention in mid range cameras. I recently had a look through my old minolta x700, and now I'm trying to forget how good the vf picture is compared to my 550d.
