Wild A few of the little owl from the last couple of nights

Second is beautiful, but I'd pick number 3. It could benefit from being a little warmer (like number 2) but the pose has more attitude and character :O)

    Beginner couple from port lympne

I like the look on the second one. Lions seem to have two looks "magnificent but bored" and "I might be able to eat that". Number 2 is definitely look hungry.

    New Zealand night sky

Ahh yes, but do you ever manage to see the star in the viewfinder to make sure its included? For me, I can tell where the north star is, but then when I look in the viewfinder or live view I can't tell if it is actually in shot or not (hence the guesswork :) It occurs to me that I might try...

    New Zealand night sky

Beautiful images :) re: the star trails one (number 4), how did you get the "south pole" ending up right on the edge of the picture? Was it deliberate, or did you crop or get lucky? I ask because (for me) being sure where the north star appears is generally a matter of approximation and...

    Sigma 150-600mm contemporary

In case anyone finds it useful this is a screenshot (snipping tool) of a 1:1 zoom of one of my first test pictures as it initially displayed in lightroom. (no editing, purely lightroom defaults) Even at ISO 800 on a 550d I'm very pleased with this lens (although I admit I have no "L" experience...

    Star trail over Skye

I actually did that cropping for another version. I love the way the light falls away to nothing.

    Star trail over Skye

Thanks for the nice comments :). I'm very happy with the picture, the foreground was almost a fluke as the horizon looked like this (below) when I got to the top. I created an alternative version with only the dark skies and it doesn't look half as good. I actually planned to do the image as...

    Star trail over Skye

:) I hope you're right! I assumed that because they were at infinity they would be circular anyway, and anything else would be distortion? I'd be happy to be wrong though (and stop wondering).

    Star trail over Skye

I took this last year from the highest point on Eilean Shona in Scotland. Its an amalgation (in Photoshop) of 399 28 second exposures (f4.0 ISO3200 Sigma 10-20 at 10mm). I love it as it is (which is why I'm posting it :) but does anyone have any advice on how to make the star trails more...

    Sigma 150-600mm contemporary

Thanks for reply.. I guess I am being a bit picky :O) It would be nice to be able to set C1 as dynamic OS and Focus priority and have a choice of ranges as well, but for the moment (like you) I'm setting C1 and C2 for near or distant subjects with those OS and focus settings. I also have a...

    Sigma 150-600mm contemporary

I've had my sigma 150-600 C for just over a week now and I love it, but... Is anyone else slightly disappointed with the customisation options? I expected that I would be able to alter the "default" setting and the two customisation settings in a similar way, and have 3 completely different...

What they should put on cameras.

As well as the focussing screen, bigger brighter viewfinders. Its how you see what you're photographing, but doesn't get much attention in mid range cameras. I recently had a look through my old minolta x700, and now I'm trying to forget how good the vf picture is compared to my 550d.

    new body but what body?

I recently looked at the 550d vs the 60d (same sensor resolution, good high ISO performance and video capability). I eventually went with the 550d as a purely financial decision, but the standout feature of the 60d for me was the viewfinder. [relatively] huge, very bright and well worth taking...
