    Scarlet Macaws

We rented a house high on a promontory overlooking the Pacific in Costa Rica. There was a fruiting shrub in the garden which was popular with Scarlet Macaw's who proved to be extremely noisy, but very entertaining neighbours. Coming in to land: A couple more for luck:

Racing with (nearly) no Rules - CanAm, Goodwood MM 2024

All things are relative, but yes, plenty of power by most measures. I think the cars typically had ~500bhp in the initial year of Can-Am, but inevitably with no rules on engine specification, there was a pretty spectacular 'arms race' as the years passed - cubic capacity increased and forced...

"Do you think that the engine is big enough.....and the rear wing could go a size up surely whilst we are at it?" (radiators mounted on wing!)

Racing with (nearly) no Rules - CanAm, Goodwood MM 2024

How did CanAm come about? "What would happen if we went racing with no car design rules?" "Well, that would be daft...you have to have some rules! OK...the cars have to be designed to carry two people.....errr....and the rear wheels need to be faired in...better?" "Yup" Well, probably not...

    Yellow-billed Cotinga

Little more than a record shot, but if I am correct and this is a male Yellow-billed Cotinga, it is quite a rare bird (possibly as few as 250 left in the wild) so thought it might be of some interest here? Photo taken in the Sierpe estuary, Costa Rica, a few weeks ago.

    Creatures of the night

Blue jeans poison frog (Oophaga pumilio) This guy was tiny - maybe 1cm long. By contrast, Smoky Jungle frogs (Leptodactylus pentadactylus) are huge - maybe 20cm! Finally one of my favourites, the Green and Black Poison-dart frog (Dendrobates auratus)

    Creatures of the night

As mentioned earlier in this thread, it was dry season when we visited this time, and it was very dry! So far fewer frogs to be seen than on previous visits, but I still saw a few: Glass frog (unsure which one?) Rain frog: Golfodulcean poison-arrow frog (Phyllobates vittatus)

    Resplendent Quetzal

We self drove the first couple of weeks of our visit and these photose were in the Savegre area (also 3-4 weeks ago) when we were staying at Trogon Lodge. This particular pair / nest site were actually within the (extensive) grounds of the lodge.

    Creatures of the night

We saw the 'stick bird on a stick' in the Sierpe estuary where we rented an 'off grid' (accessible only by boat) house...one of several we saw, but the youngster made this sighting special for me. I think Potoo's are reasonably widespread in Costa Rica....spotting them is the tricky bit! All...
