Are DSLR's now pretty much dead?

I know. In the past the smart money may have been on the f1.8 option but I do think a lot of people viewed them as the lesser option and I do think that attitude is still there in some people to this day. I don't know about the latest Nikon mirrorless lenses but I've seen comments about the...

Are DSLR's now pretty much dead?

I think part of the problem with the pricing of some of the new mirrorless lenses is that we haven't really seen high performance f1.8's like them too often before, if at all, and perhaps we've got used to paying less for f1.8 options which have perhaps traditionally been more the cheaper less...

You may be right but maybe I should enjoy the 20mm f1.8 for a while and I also need to use the Voigtlander 50mm f2 a lot more. Having three new lenses to get to grips with at the same time might be a bit much for me. It takes me a bit of time and a lot of shots to get to know a lens.

Yes. It looks like after being on the fence for years and hedging my bets with old adapted lenses I'm now almost ready to commit to my A7 :D and have slowly been building up my native lenses. I think all that's missing now is a wide zoom. Actually back when I had DSLR's I also had a 70-300mm too.

The prices are nice and friendly and they're nice and compact too which all makes them very attractive. The QC issues make me wonder what life with a good one is like. I wonder what their longer term longevity is like when you do get a good one? It's maybe too soon to tell.

Are DSLR's now pretty much dead?

Yes. I took some pictures with mine that I still look at these days. I had mine at the same time as the 20D and for indoor pictures of friends and family I chose the 10D over the 20D as it was much less conspicuous due to the much quieter shutter. I can't remember what happened to mine. I...

macro on a budget micro 4/3rds

Well, there you go then :D I'm sure I've read that there's a Vivitar somewhere in the 80 to 100mm range that's very well thought of. The only thing wrong with my Sigma 50mm is that although there's plenty of focus movement for close up there's next to none for further distance which can be...

Are DSLR's now pretty much dead?

I remember my Canon 20D. It sounded like an anvil being thrown into a tin bath. As far as I remember some of the Canon APS-C cameras had a more complicated mirror movement which lead to more noise. I'm sure I read that somewhere but I've no idea if that, if true, persists into the more modern...

macro on a budget micro 4/3rds

Quite a few old lenses only go to half life size and need a tube to go to 1:1 so I think it's worth thinking about what's really needed, half life size may be enough and there's the possibility of cropping, maybe. I used to like my Sigma 150mm on my DSLR's and 50mm seems a bit short for me on...

That looks nice and at a fairly reasonable price when compared to other quality wide angle zooms. I may have to put that on my I want one list :D

Over 70's to be asked to self-isolate - how will you pursue your hobby?

My point is that I think that people should only go out and in doing so risk being infected or risk infecting others for a very good reason. That should have been clear enough and on rereading I'm sure it is. I don't think you've been clear which is why I asked for clarification. You seemed to...

    How portraits lie

I'll accept that no photograph can fully capture reality as we form an impression and view which is ours and may differ wildly from that of others but it can perhaps capture a slice of it and that could be an honest slice for many people. A sunset scene may be terrifying to some but for many it...
