    WAMT....what annoyed me today!

I drive an old (E61) BWM estate and never notice other drivers aggression towards me or the car so was quite surprised when my regular mechanic on returning the car from the last MOT asked if I find that people want to race me from the lights. For context he is in his mid sixties and has / does...

    Some recommendations for B&W film

Camera that don't have moving masks in the viewfinder to compensate for parallax often have small notches in the bright lines to give you an idea of how to frame close subjects.

SHARE YOUR FILM SHOOTING OUTINGS HERE - Communal Thread (warning, may be picture heavy)

This thread had escaped my attention until this morning, I have on and off today read through all nineteen pages. It is among other things an interesting documentary on how people coped in the 2020 to 2021 years and how both people come and go from a forum as time permits and how those people...

101 ways to ruin a roll of film

I take it the dark spots on the negative are fog from the backing paper markings. I have had similar with a old roll of FP4 + left in the Rollie in the loft room under eves storage space for many years, I don't care too much for the lost film but I am quite disappointed with myself for leaving...

    Focusing the View Camera

Indeed not all tilt around the centre of the lens board, but my comment re the nodal point not been at the lens board means that even those that appear to do so don't in real life. I don't know your Calumet but I imagine that if you apply a left / right shift you will throw things even further...

    Focusing the View Camera

Just to throw an advanced spanner in the works - Very few cameras rotate their lens boards and backs around the centre of the image or lens' nodal point the last does not even need to be within the physical construction of the lens. Get your head under a dark cloth and critically observe what...

    First 4x5

Indeed there are so many new things to think about with large format many of which can cause a total loss of image, I think that you have done well for a first 54.

For those who don't like B/W: the AI solution for $10,000

Most would have a darkroom tec. that they worked very closely with, some of the contact sheets and proof prints with detailed instructions re dodge / burn are fascinating.

    Canon 2x extender

I too was curious after replying this morning, I got the 300mm f/4 and both extenders out to try with a Fujifilm X-T4 and Fringer pro adapter. To say that the 1.4x worked better than it did with the old Canon bodies is an understatement, constant AF and IS were perfect, the x2 loses AF , so not...

    A big film scanner thread

You should be able to find an older Plustek 7200i or similar in budget, we have one here which can outperform the Epson V700 but is rarely used as you can not load it with four strips of negatives and wander off as it does it's thing.

    Canon 2x extender

I was using the mk2 EF 2X extender and 1.4X extender with the EF 300mm f/4 on an original EOS 5D and the EOS 1D mk2N they worked really well on those bodies with that lens. The big surprise was how well they worked with the EF 180mm macro, I have no experience with the mk3 extenders or more up...

The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I had the EF-M 11-22mm used on the EOS M6 mk2, it was very useful for the narrow streets of Valletta and Dubrovnik but I still reached for the iPhone for very wide shots, now I have the XT4 I have access to a wider range of off brand lenses, the 9mm Viltrox is very appealing. Though I do need a...
