Lightroom 6/CC trial ending soon

Have been using a trial version for just under a month and coming to an end very soon. I've decided that my best option will be to buy a "standalone" version as I don't see myself using PS any time soon. Question is if I buy the standalone version is it simply a question of inputting the new licence into the existing software (which I downloaded from the Adobe site and says Lightroom CC) or will I have to uninstall what I have already and then do a fresh install of the new software? I'm sure someone will have already gone through this process and I would appreciate any help. I am just a bit concerned about losing all the edits/catalogs I've already created. Thanks in advance.

Probably uninstall and reinstall as LR CC and LR6 are slightly different products. The key thing is your catalogues (which contain your edits) are independent of the program any way so won't be effected. Best thing to do is take a backup of the existing catalogue as a matter of course anyway and keep it somewhere safe away from your main storage.

From what I understand (so I could be completely wrong!), the LR app is the same and it's functionality is dependant on the registration method used.

Something along the lines of:
  • No registration - time limited trial (after trial expires you'll still have access to your images and edits, but no develop module for new edits, mobile, etc.).
  • Standalone registration entered - LR6 without mobile, or the very latest additions ('Dehaze' etc.).
  • Log in with valid AdobeCC sub - LR CC with all the bells & whistles.

Thanks to both Sharky & Tony for their comments. I would also appreciate hearing from any fellow members who have actually gone through the process of switching from a Lightroom CC trial to installing the standalone version. Many thanks.

LightRoom 6 and LightRoom CC are identical. When you register the software as standalone some of the CC features are disabled.

What!

I was asking about dehaze in the LR thread yesterday.

So that mean the function are there installed on my computer but just disable for some nonsense reason...
If true that's even more shocking that the "LR is not able to implement new functionality in the standalone version" that i understood. That is just "LR is trying to rip you off" reason

Not really shocking or a rip-off IMO - a tad frustrating tho' I'd certainly agree.

You've still got all the features that were present when LR6 was released. No features have been removed since you purchased it.

Adobe's stance appears to be that LR6 will be updated for new camera & lens profiles, bugs fixes, and performance improvements etc.; but new features will also be added to LRCC whenever they're ready (as is the case with Photoshop CC). I'd assume these new CC features will be made available in LR7 (if there is one).

However, there's a bit of a wrinkle (I believe), if you can get hold of some Dehaze presets created with LRCC, these can then be used in LR6.

Oki Tony "shocking", "rip off", i am slighlty over reacting and melodramatic there.

If it's the same install and the software is install on my computer but just deactivated i just find that snicky... As some have suggested, being so little time between LR6 coming out and new dehaze function coming out, the feature must have been ready when LR6 came out but adobe decided not to include it for some mysterious reason (likely business minded) is it even within the original LR6 install?

But to my defence, i bought the software only a week ago so I had no idea this function wasn't included because when i read about the new lightroom features i didn't go to read the small print that it was only cc and not the brand new standalone version but i will live without like i always lived without. There some rumor that they won't be a lightroom 7 as it will only become a pay monthly feature. not sure how this is true.

Thanks for all replies. So it looks as though by going the "stand alone" route, installing the new licence number into the existing LR CC trial will disable the De-Haze slider? Thanks also to Tony for the above link.
