Hey, Guys

So, started using Lightroom. as I shoot RAW....albeit with teeny steps.

What would you say is its best feature for a beginner? I use it for reducing highlights/increasing shadows at the moment.
Played about with saturation/vibrance, but can see how you could over-egg it easily.

Cheers!

Find Anthony morganti on youtube. He has lots of lessons on lightroom and they are great.
I second this.

In answer to the OP's question I'd recommend getting used to what the individual sliders do before getting bogged down with the individual brushes, filters etc although these are very useful and very powerful tools. The curves adjustment is a very powerful tool too, especially if you use the individual colour channels as well as the luminance. Sharpening mask is a good thing to learn too.

Everyone has their own workflow and there's no right way to do it really. As you get used to it you'll find what works best for you.

just play about with it.. go to develop and work from the top down.. exposure, contrast, highlights etc .. again Julianne Kost is great..

There are lots of tutorials on YouTube. Some are really good and you can learn many simple or advanced techniques.

Check Youtube. I self-learned using Youtube.

As aperture is now dead I have download Lightroom and photoshop. I have a few old magazines but also looking at YouTube for more information

Cheers chaps. As mentioned, I'm just toying about with the basics functions which I'm finding is very useful when shooting RAW.

Me doing the processing rather than the camera.doing it for me is yieding good results from the 'straight from camera' image. Tho trying to keep it limited as don't want to deviate from the original too far - The highlights/shadows feature is defo a goodie for me.

Due to the horrible weather this week I decided to organise my Lightroom catalogue. I found a really good free software plug in for Lightroom which finds and removes duplicates. Here is the link to it. http://www.bungenstock.de/teekesselchen/ It works really well and saved me many hours of work sorting out my LR5 catalogue this week. It doesn't delete any of your files until you tell it to so you can check them first and make any alterations to the settings to get the correct result you want.
