Yes
I've had a small search and couldn't find too much about it, but there is a very nice condition Fuji GW690ii on eBay Japan, it seems a pretty decent price even when import tax is added on to that, has anyone here purchased anything from there before? Has it gone smoothly etc?

Thanks for any help :)

Ive ordered a few lenses for my RB67 and very good service indeed, i think the japanese sellers are excellent.
i did get charged full duty on both items.

Yes a couple of times, very easy I had no problems at all. The quicker you pay the tax and charges the quicker you get the item....

Bought a Sekor 65mm a few years ago, like Paul for an RB67 and like Paul I was charged duty (and VAT).

I've bought a few things from Japan and the only hold-ups have been at this end, usually after it arrives at the airport and they decide to stick their thumbs up their arses instead of getting on with it. Shortest delay was 2 days, longest was nearly two weeks (10 days IIRC) showing on the tracker as "assessment for Customs duty" or some such nonsense.

Expect to pay 6.7% import duty, VAT at standard rate calculated on the total (yes, VAT is charged on the import duty), then the carrier's Christmas bonus for their paying the fees on your behalf despite you not having had the opportunity to pay them yourself. That charge varies but is usually somewhere between £8 and £15. ParcelFarce International are the best for that, having two charges of £8.95 and £13.95 - which you're charged depends on whether your item is for 48 or 24 hour delivery and they don't even deliver it, you have to go in and collect it.

It's ridiculous as you've already paid the seller for P&P, including carriage to your door but without the backhander, the parcel company won't let you have your property. I've complained in the past but the law was changed a few years ago to make charging a fee for an unsolicited service legal in these circumstances. I find that if the PF person is particularly smug about it, explaining that you know it's the law and that they don't have the authority or ability to do anything about it usually wipes the smirk off their face.

Yeah, it's a bit of a bugbear of mine.

You could pay a customs agent yourself to import it, but I think they'd charge more than £8.95.

The issue I have is with the payment for an unsolicited service plus the added insult of having to collect the item. There's no reason why HMRC couldn't collect the fee online or over the phone and the item being delivered to your door yet all the carriers are able to get away with fleecing us for this "administration" charge.

Professionals can claim back the costs against tax but for the rest of us, we're stuck with having to include that fee when looking at importing anything.

Have bought 3 things off Japanese ebay sellers in the last approx 18 months & have been happy every time. All has been as described & as others have said, even with Customs & PF taking their wedge the prices have always been lower than buying from here would be.

In the old days I had to go to the local Parcelforce office & pay at the counter but now I get a letter with a Web site address where I can go pay what is owed online. The package is nearly always delivered the day after I pay.

The one thing to note for these camera,s is the shutter count.

In their camera manual, Fuji suggest a shutter overhaul at 500 on the shutter counter, that would be 5000 shutter actuations as the counter turns one every ten clicks. Fuji also recommend a full shutter and film advance overhaul at 10,000 shutter actuations (1000 on the counter) as they say that this is the normal limit for the ability of the shutter blades of inter-lens shutter camera to open and close. The shutter advance mechanism is more robust and may not need attention. Hopefully, the shutter reconditioning is related mainly to the replacement of springs, but do not take this as gospel as I have minimal knowledge of what would be needed in that overhaul.

some borrowed info from web.

The thing is with ebay Japan is they have stuff you just can't get any where else

Was an expensive parcel that! (Japanese on market import car means replacement parts need to be sourced from Japan)

Thanks for all the interesting replies guys, looks like it could be a very possible option then, just got to use the import tax calculator to make sure I'm actually not ending up paying more!
Wish someone in the UK would just sell their GW690 though, that would be easier :p
