Anyone got one of their photos chosen for the new Countryfile Calendar or spot it in the selection process?
Interesting final selection and I think my favourite was the little Water Vole(?) at the blackberries but there were some good ones, inc the Hare and the Barn Owl and the Anglesey Dawn.
Anyone else notice that nice Mr @markblake looks younger in his avatar? :D :exit:

Hi gramps:)!

I've just voted! Lovely pics - "Anglesey Dawn" was a favourite but I went for "On Reflection" by Duncan Innes. They're all smashing:plus1:!

Anglesey dawn, hare, didn't like the cow reflection, but liked the symmetry with the tree.

I saw the show and was amazed at the quality and quantity of the images. I liked the owl and the reflection best.Feel a tad left out as I have know idea how the vole image was taken.

Is there anyway of viewing the images without registering, I don't want to vote !

I voted for the owl, the deer, and the two little mice. There were so many amazing photos for them to pick through, must have been very hard to get down to twelve. I've previously thought about entering a photo but I don't think there's much point now as I could never compete with those!

Feel a tad left out as I have know idea how the vole image was taken.

You're not the only one- I have no clue either. Although given that people say it ruins the magic of the photo, I'm not sure that I really want to know!

I find this sad that you feel you can't compete with the standard of images when it's already been mentioned they several were mostly likely taken on workshops or photography days. It is within the rules of the competition and even competitions such as BWPA too. I've always liked the countryfile calendar as it feels like it's designed to get people out into the countryside and a chance for everyone no matter what standard you are. The badger image from a few years ago was a great example. The final images are very good and the images deserve to be in the calendar as great examples of the British countryside but it's sad they put people off entering.

Carl I utterly agree with Rob and share his sadness. (lovely post Rob all credit mate:cool:)

Carl I sometimes feel the same,I see photos of wildlife all over the place that I can only dream of and yearn to take myself. I spend hours in the field chasing my chosen subject and it has to be said most times fail. was up at 4am yesterday to be ready for a kingy that never arrived, just as an aside.

But Carl, those images like the others take, like we dream of taking are only (OMG this is the worst pun) a snap shot away, they really are bro. Buddy turn this over, use those images as your inspiration use those images to push yourself to try harder, life is about trying .It's about the journey Carl not winning wininng is only someone's opinion the journey you OWN.

The images from this calendar are awesome, some I'll never even attempt to take I suppose......workshops are not really my thing,I think it's great that others like them though all credit . This has to be fun,it's all about enjoying what mum nature gave us, in all our individual ways, sommit for everyone with wildlife photography.
So go get that image Carl maybe fail maybe fail a hell of a lot ,that doesn't matter. All the time you are out there you are learning, then one day the magical moment might come and maybe just maybe against all the odds you will get what you tried for and feel you can compete.
but bro if you or I don't make that grade,we still got to spend those hours in the countryside chasing the animals or birds that we adore. We'll learn things see things few have
No one,I repeat no one can take that away Carl
Essentially that is what this calendar is about as Rob has said .

Go get 'em buddy don't think on gear, on how expensive tools can be, just go get 'em.

If you love nature really love nature, sooner or later that has to come out in a picture, when it does i'm sure that image will have a chance anywhere
take care mate

Some very inspirational images there, whether staged or not. One day I will nail an image worthy of entry:)

You can if you're prepared to pay for it, it's as simple as that really , workshops all over the country , I know someone who as found a subject and photographs it from his car , you go with him point you're lens at the subject get shots and then pay him , he calls it a workshop , me personally I don't find doing that as my own work , each to their own , I get more out of winning a competion knowing what I have put in to it and explaining to the judges how I achieve it , rather than saying I got it from a paid workshop .

Nice selection this year I think, usual balance in the favour of wildlife but that's not unusual. It does look like one or two were staged but ultimately it's a photo competition so it's about the final image not the process used to achieve it.

Nice to see a photo of Anglesey in the selection, it's quickly become THE iconic view of the island and probably North Wales, I chose it as the front cover of my book as it's a view that represents everything that North wales has to offer in one scene. I was slightly surprised to see it chosen as I'm certain that several versions of it get submitted every year...well done to Gareth for having his picked though, taken in lovely light and fits the theme perfectly.

I do really like the vole image, the deer too although some may think he's photo-shopped the head into the field...personally I think it's the best set of images I've seen chosen for the calendar so well done the judges

Can I ask which photo’s people think are from a workshop or set up by someone else? I only ask as I’m responsible for the Stag photo selected for December (which is all my own work btw – and not photo-shopped!).

To Steve (and others above); all I can say is enter a few shots into competitions and you never know. This is the first competition I have ever entered and I only did so because someone suggested it. I never really thought any of my work was good enough.

I think perhaps a lot of photographers, like me, are over critical of their own work and don’t necessary recognize that some of their shots are just as good. I have to say that many of the wonderful images posted in these forums are more than worthy and I often find myself wishing I could produce such good shots.

Den, I agree. The greatest pleasure comes achieving the shots you have worked at and not the product of “Pay and Display” days.

I don't take photographs for competitions , what normally happens is my wife who reads a lot and gets all sorts of magazines just tells me their is a comp with a certain theme , and then suggests a certain pic I may have , won loads but I don't shout about it because if my wife never said anything I would be non the wiser and I would just carry on , i have won comps with pics that are technically awful , that shot was for a national trust calendar, never dreamed it would be shortlisted , sometimes it's always worth entering as you never know

It sounds as if your experience of entering competitions is similar to mine - in my case it was my mother who suggested it! I agree, you never know - sometimes different people see things in shots that you just don't see yourself.

Nail on head ...one shot i won a comp were i chopped the legs off, only had one eye in full focus but it fit the theme ....

Firstly well done on getting your photo chosen ... I had an feeling I had seen it before, did you post it or one similar on here? :)
It's suggested that the Vole shot was setup and I can see that as possibly being the case, I would also say that the Harvest Mice shot was setup ... having said that I assume that there is nothing in the rules to say that such shots shouldn't be used so 'all's fair' etc.
I'm not a 'pay and display' snob and think that these workshops give a great deal of pleasure to a lot of people and help to support some photographers who have a hard time making a living solely on selling their images.
