Extra storage on iPad for Canon RAW files

Normally when I'm on location I take my MacBook Pro with me. This way I can use it to preview shots etc. However it would be more convenient to use my iPad . However I would need more storage on it. Now I've looked at the various plug in storage systems, and whilst they support JPEG and TIFF formats they don't support RAW formats. One option may be to use a wireless system but these don't come cheap.

Has anyone found a storage system that works with an iPad that will handle Canon RAW format similar to the Leef iBridge ( Which doesn't support Canon RAW) or similar

I've recently looked into this but sadly found nothing that would do the job. There do seem to a few odd usb pen drives that will plug into the lightening connector but I gave it a miss.

I got a years free subscription to Keenai when I bought an Eye-fi card. Now when I add photos to my iPad Pro they are uploaded to Keenai, this includes Raw files from my Canon 5d3

I have tried a few Lightning/USB hybrid memort sticks but I nad no luck copying/moving RAW files via the Ipad.

It's certainly something I would find useful. to be able to do.

Just take MBP. It is almost as portable as an ipad, and they are both extremely portable. The difference is the ipad is next to useless once you try to do anything productive on it. Sold mine ages ago - and it was the best thing I did.

I think your right. The beauty is the iPad would fit nicely into a pocket of the camera bag. The MBP is just a bit too big ( and heavier ) . I've used the iPad before, on location when it had a bit more memory available. Great for a quick check that everything is OK which is all I want it for.

Thanks all for the replies

My approach is probably not the most elegant, but it worked well for me when i was in Orlando a couple of weeks ago.

I have the Apple SD card reader (latest USB3 version) and a 128GB Sandisk iXpand drive. I got the 128GB version as it also store my films for traveling. My GF has a smaller version.

The SD card transfers the raw files to the iPad, and the iXpand takes them off. The iXpand is really good, as it has Lighting at one end and USB 3 at the other so transfers are very fast to my PC when i get home.

Does your camera have the ability to shoot raw and jpg? Could you afford to shoot in both modes and send the jpg direct to your iPad or a wireless drive. That's what I sometimes do.

Take a look at the LaCie Fuel, a wireless external hard drive that you can use to store 1TB of data which can be transferred wirelessly from your iPad, thus freeing up storage. I've got my eye on one to use with my iPad Pro.

That's what I'm after, I was lead to believe that iXpand didn't support RAW but from your experience it does. I'll look into it

I tried it with a few raw files before posting, just to make sure.
Not sure if it only works with an ipad Pro or all of them. I can try on my ipad Air later if that helps.

The raw files are just files, so it shouldn't matter what format they are in. They might not get treated as image files, but if its just storage you are after then its not a problem.

Brilliant.

I agree there shouldn't be any difference between iPads

Thanks again for your help
