The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Great image! :)
If you look closely at the Bokeh balls, you'll notice that they aren't perfectly round, very similar trait to the Zeiss Batis.

I think they'll be rounder closer to the centre of the frame, and larger than the baits. I'll be out with it this evening so will hopefully get some more.

Also used the 55mm zeiss which continues to blow me away.

For no reason whatsoever, except perhaps vanity, I got myself one of these:

Actually quite nice to hold now with my pinky on the grip, not under the body. Not sure it's worth the price - especially with delivery, and non-sterling transaction fees - but as work paid for all my lighting gear as I did the company headshots, thought I'd treat myself :)

And why not?
:D

Hefty drop on the a7RII at Castle Cameras today, £500 off, cheapest UK price for a long long time.

The price cuts are interesting as maybe they point to something new coming but the rumors have been of a camera or range of above the A7x so I wonder if we'll see new A7's, a move upmarket, a new range above or maybe more than one of these things.

Be nice if they would sort major existing issues though... ah well, it's the way it goes unfortunately. All the manufacturers are doing it these days.

There will always be issues but I do think that sometimes some of these issues are just internet bragging rights or internet whinges issues rather than significant real world issues. People pointing out world ending issues is another thing that's across all brands.

PS.
I've been sat here thinking what to buy myself but apart from a 50mm macro and a compact 35mm f1.8 I can't think of anything I want.

I've posted general real world issues of the camera that make it unusable for studio work

Tbh though a grey is just over 2k what's Sony uk thinking at 3k. P take.

I agree, it is a p-take. The Sony A7RII does also have some issues which Sony still hasn't resolved, the latest firmware updates actually caused it (step backwards), namely the ability to shoot in studio situations etc.
I suspect the Sony A9 is going to be announced this month hence the price drop, I managed to get my A7RII for £2000.
Exciting times.... as I think the Sony A9 is be the next big thing for the mirrorless market.

I thought of you as I typed and knew it'd only be a matter of time before you called in for a whinge so I win myself a cheese sarnie :D

But other than you I was thinking about things which are arguably more armchair fanboy fodder or once in a blue moon speciality issues and both those are plentiful on here and other internet sites.

I do like Zeiss rendering.

I usually lurk on this thread as some time I'll get a A7x. At the mo my A6000 suits me just fine for the vast majority of the time.

Very nice :D

I've thought about buying an A6xxx camera probably more times than I've thought about buying anything else.

I'm very pleased with my A6000. Transformed my enjoyment of taking photos and small/light enough to take into the hills. It's brilliant value. Now I've got some good lenses, a mix of new/old Zeiss and old therefore affordable Leica, it's way better than my own abilities to take a snap.

Just noticed I've had an email from Calumet saying that the new prices on the A7 line are from Sony, A7sii has gone down too,

Yup in prep for the new A7III and A9 series :)
Still think another price drop will come from nice the new bodies come out.
A7RII £1999
A7SII £1899

The same prices pre-brexit?

Anyone tempted at these prices?

I can't say I'm tempted really as my 1st gen A7 does everything I want it to. If I buy anything for my A7 system it's much more likely to be a lens than a camera and given what I'd like (a compact 35mm f1.8/2 and/or a 50mm macro with decent focusing) probably isn't anyones priority at the moment I can't see me buying anything anytime soon.

Not at all, still far too expensive.

Hmmm, I think too expensive is debateable.
Sony A7, £800.
Sony A7II, £1250.
A7S, £1,700.
A7SII, £2,500.
A7R, £1,300.
A7RII, £2,500.

But keep in mind that you can pay £1,400 for a Fuji APS-C or £1,600 for one with a graphite finish, an Olympus Micro Four Thirds camera could set you back £1,850 and you could spend £1,700 on a Panasonic MFT.

Of course these cameras all do slightly different things and bring different abilities strengths and weaknesses but think about things carefully and I don't think that any of these cameras stand out as too expensive if you look at them in context with the competition.

I'm still not buying one though :D

Still save approximately £500 buy going grey.
So if they price on the grey market dives as well that could be very interesting.
Apart from the studio flash issue are there any BIG real world weaknesses with these cameras? I suppose tracking ability is still a weakness but that doesn't matter to me.
I suppose we'll see what any future new model brings, even I could be tempted by some out of this world new feature or ability.
