DPR reports that Zenit intend to release a FF mirrorless camera next year. A "leading photographic equipment company" will produce some of the components for this camera." They say. They also say that the cost will exceed that of a "good smartphone,"

Read all about it...

It'll be interesting to see what they can do but maybe I'd rather see a range of well made if only average optical quality metal manual lenses at reasonable prices that'll fit straight onto my Sony A7 :D

Gee I wonder if Sony will produce the components. o_O

I did wonder and I also wondered what the price of a camera with Sony bits would be.... I have no idea how much a good smartphone costs.

Well if we are talking high end, iPhone, Galaxy Sx etc, about £600-700.

A Sony A7 is £700 (at Wex and including £100 cash back) so I suppose it's doable.

It'll be very interesting to see what they can do :D

If be surprised if they could push out anything better than an a7 for 700 quid.

Make full frame mirrorless under £1000 new ? I will see a cow jump over the moon before that happens. More like the price of two high end smartphones

I wasn't thinking better, maybe not as refined or feature packed could be done.

You do know it's already possible to buy a FF CSC for under £1000.

So, the question is more is it economic to buy the bits off Sony and/or/plus Panasonic and make something if not technically as good at least interesting.

We'll obviously :D have to wait and see but I do think and hope that a sub £1k camera or even a little over that could well be possible but more than the price I'm interested in what they can do to make it an attractive product that people will want to buy and use. Sorry to bang on about old lenses again but a range of well made lenses of no more than FD/Rokkor/OM quality together with lets say an interesting camera could maybe be a nice niche seller.

Maybe :D

yes thats true so come on wheres the cow ? lol

The first company that came to mind was xioami who are already building an interchangeable camera with a Sony sensor that retail for just $300-$400. A collaboration could be mutually beneficial for both parties.

The important information is missing ... like will a new Zenit camera be able to survive being ran over by a tank?

From the article
The planned full-frame mirrorless camera will retain iconic, brand-recognizable elements,

So I'm guessing that means yes, you will still be able to hammer in nails with one

Average quality? I'd have thought the used market was already flooded with lenses that match that requirement.

When the specs match the A7, and Sony finally pull it from their current lineup, you'll know where the bits came from :)

Again?

I have Rokkor, Zuiko and FD primes most of which I've had a while but prices are rising and nice ones are getting harder to find and more expensive. Outside of the cheap 28mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.8 (if you can still find a nice cheap one) you can pay cheap DSLR lens prices, for example film era 85mm f1.8's can go for knocking on the price of a new Sanyang. Plus FD's etc need an adapter which although not heavy do add to the bulk and it'd be nice to mount a new reasonably priced manual prime of Rokkor/Zuiko/FD build and image quality straight to a FF CSC. For me anyway.

If they go that way I can see a niche market for a camera and lenses.
