Yes
So I see you can buy win 10 pro keys for £3.99 on the bay - are these ok?
I have an old laptop that I was going to wipe clean and install win 10
Is it worth a gamble? Are there any pitfalls??
Thanks

I would not trust eBay.

What version of windows are you currently running?

It’s got Vista on at the mo- I get not trusting eBay but thought for 4 quid it’s worth a punt !

I know someone that bought something similar.. his bank account and all personal info was subsequently harvested..

If you had win 7 I would have said try

Edit: YouTube link removed, not sure why the link I added was not the correct one. I did copy the one I wanted to post.

I would give it a punt for £4 its just a licence key, you will need the ISO from Microsoft website as well.

If you do get it, put the received licence key onto google, if its a well known dodgy one it'll appear in the search and in that case get back to them siting your concerns regarding piracy.

I've seen stuff like this for sale in the past. The keys themselves are often "genuine Microsoft", but they're OEM licences scraped off the sides of dead systems. That being the case, they're unlikely to activate, 'cos the hardware fingerprint won't match that of the original system.
IIRC, the OEM EULA states it's not transferable, and dies with the machine.

I believe MSDN/TechNet/VLV keys can be deactivated if serious abuse is noticed, so even if you buy one, and it works, you may find yourself suddenly getting that "Not Genuine" message somewhere down the line.

There are thousands of windows keys that literally get thrown away each year off PC's sold in bulk. I work in Retail IT and over the last 20+ years I've seen loads of serials that have never been used. I had never paid for a license until 7 pro came out then I couldn't get one.

The license numbers these people sell are possibly one of those off PC's that come with OEM stickers that will never be used, but they also could be system builder serials that could get killed off at any time.

Try it, its like the cost of a weak pint of London beer?

sorry make that a half pint.

I've bought cheap keys for Office before on ebay - same sort of deal Office365 for £10.
I took the punt, stuck it into the MS website to download the software from - no issues at all.

I even ended up using the chat feature to talk to an MS rep about the install process (MS in their wisdom have stopped you from doing a custom install, so your forced to install everything.....unless you follow the work around). Anyway, I even asked them to check the validity of the license and they confirmed it was all fine.

No idea how they are doing it for tenner. All I know is it worked and MS themselves said it was a pukka license!

Try it.....use a seller with lots of feedback and pay the extra few quid is my advice.
