Interesting conversation with a Sigma Rep today...

I didn't know that if you had a sigma lens, then you could send them to their service centre and have the mount changed. It's not available for all lens, mainly the telephoto lenses, but if you've got a favourite lens then decide to change from Canon to Nikon say, they can change your mount. Rather than selling and having to replace lenses..

it’s very expensive though and would massively impact any future value I’d have thought. Much easier to sell one brand at £400 and buy the other brand used at £400 or £450.

Agreed, although not so easy with my Sigma 500mm f/4 Sport.

To be honest it shouldn't impact the value at all as the mount change is done by the manufacturer themselves, it's not like it has been done by some back of the alley cowboy. Mind you it used to be half what they are quoting now.

A small independant can probably do it for slightly less..I have a nikon sigma in for repair at the moment getting the autofocus circuit board replaced for just over a £100..so they would need to change your autofocus circuit board to either nikon or canon along with the mount probably do able for £250 at a push maybe...

He didn't say how much it cost for them to change, but must say I've got a couple of Sigma Lenses I'd wouldn't want to part with, so I'd consider it on these.

I've been looking at a 12-24 mm Art lens for a while, but a decent used lens isn't much cheaper than buying new, so today with show discount, I know got one winging it's way to me, should be here by Wednesday

@thequietman

I should imagine the mount part is cheap as chips, just expensive for them to swap over, not sure whether they have to change focus boards or not.

Yes focus board needs to be changed different for canon and nikon lenses 2 seperate types of board..

good point on that one, didn’t consider the bigger lenses, I was more thinking along the lines of 35mm 1.4 etc.

In the days of manual focus lenses changing mounts was done quite often.

A popular swap was converting a 600mm Nikkor to OM mount. I had one in the early 1990s. The 300mm f/2 Nikkor was commonly converted to a movie camera mount.

Another popular conversion was the Canon FD 35mm (or maybe it was 28mm) tilt and shift to Nikon mount.

I have a few Tamron Adaptall 2 SP lenses that use a changeable mount system.
Me too. I have a Nikon full frame body specifically to use them.

The 17mm...

...and the 90mm macro (about a quarter of the original frame)...
