These 3 species of small sized Butterflies, have been on the wing for well over a week now.
When i say small, the Skippers are the size of your thumb nail, an the Hairstreak is slightly larger.
All 3 species are known to fly low an rapid, whilst the Skippers bask with wings open, the Hairstreak basks with its wings closed.
None of these images have been cropped. Cheers Paul.
Any questions encouraged.

Smashing set with the Hairstreak being my pick of the bunch
Thanks for the comment Gary, its always appreciated.
The Hairstreak image has the "cleanest" background for sure, but my fav is the closed wing shot of the Dingy Skipper.

Im off out to see if i can find some Brown Argus/Small Copper soon, its a bit too hot right now though, but im hoping to get some useable images later in the day/early evening. ;) Cheers Paul.

Hi Paul,
Never an easy job getting the Green Hairstreak without a messy BG but I know it`s possible.
With the Skippers it`s a different ballgame, Lovely little things with some nice colours and patterns.
I`ve just had one printed and it look`s sublime, I hope you don`t mind me posting it here, I`ll remove if you don`t want it on your thread.

It`s definitely worth it.
I got prints of different shots, My only problem is now the frame, I decided to by a table saw and buy the frame I want and I should save some euros by doing that.

Just checked, an i can now see your image...nice one mate, your Mallow Skipper is a bit like our Grizzled Skipper.
Making/constructing your own frames must be good to do too...………..right, im out the door, i'll check in later...it could be a late evening, by the time I finish chasing these Brown Argus, an whatever else I see along the way. Cheers Paul.

Wonderful shots, good to see a few different butterflies. (y)I hardly saw any about today on my walk..:cautious:

Cheers Alby, ive been chasing Butterflies for a decade now, so I know where to look each season/year/time/place/location/habitat etc. However, this time of the year, theres plenty of species on the wing, so I guess your luck wasn't in on the day.

Lovely shots (y) and what a good lookin specimen the Hairstreak is.
Thanks for that.

Excellent set
Cheers.

Wonderful set. I wonder if you get more variety with the warmer climate in the SE ?

Thanks for the comment John.

I live in Kent.
Over the last decade, im sure ive seen/photographed up to 39 species of Butterfly within Kent.
Despite me living in a suburban house(although my garden does back onto a small wooded area) im pretty sure ive recorded up to 26 species of Butterfly in my garden...but some of those butterflies were a fly-through) a few of em didn't land! but im still calling them a garden "tick". ;)

So yeah, the South East is a great area for Butterflies......but if I want to increase my species list, ive now got to leave sunny Kent, an venture out more.
