So i'm trying to save for a all around lens to take with me to New York in the new year.

Currently looking at the following Lenses

Nikon 24 - 120 f4
Sigma 24-105 f4
Nikon 24-70 f2.8G

The lens will be used as an all round lens so some street photography, city scapes and such.

I will also be taking my Nikon 50mm f1.8, Sigma 105 f2.8 and possibly Nikon 18--35 f3.5-4.5 (not sure about this one tho)

So i know the Nikon 24-70 is supposed to be really good but i would like the extra reach, all be it short. I have previosly had the Nikon 24-120 f4 and did really enjoy this lens but the sigma is supposed to be sharper than the nikon so is it worth sacrificing some of the extra reach to have the sharper lens?

These lenses will all be going on my Nikon D750

Last time I went to New York I took a Nikon 24-85 on my D810. I don’t remember thinking that I needed more at either end.

I also owned at that time the 24-70 F2.8 and the 24-120 F4 but both are big heavy lenses and combined with the D810, I didn’t want any extra weight to what I was already carrying round all day anyway.

However, of your options, I’d go with the 24-120. I don’t have it or the 24-70 any more as I’ve sold them and the D810 and moved to the Nikon Z system, but the 24-120 was more versatile and nearly as sharp if that’s a priority. Personally, I wouldn’t spend extra money for a slightly sharper lens unless you’re going to be shooting wide open all the time, and printing lots of enormous prints where you’d notice any lack of lens sharpness. Save the money and spend it in New York!

Ive got sigma 24-105 and it was the only lens on camera in NY. I took a couple of others but not needed. So either 24-105 or 24-120

ive recommended before for NY trips to take a platypod and head in bag as they usually take tripod off you at tall building security. I’d leave 105 and 18-35 at home and use space/ weight saved for a 24-105/120, platypod and head, would still take the 5pmm 1.8, couple of stops might be useful and its reasonably light

I'd pack light - it is surprising how much walking you do. I mostly used my Canon 24-105f4 (on a 5D) when I was there.

Having owned a 24-70/2.8 I would go for the 24-120/4..... I owned both but have kept the 24-120 as it was VR, more versatile and optically on a par with my 24-70.

Personally, I'd go with Peter and take the 24-120 for the extra versatility and use the 50mm for lower light, shallower DoF shots.

Hi, my wife took a NIKON 18-35 on a D700 on her trip to New York. But she told me 18mm was not wide enough for architecture.
