Lencarta softboxes

Hoping @Garry Edwards may pop up on this one as the man in the know with Lencarta generally...
Have they started to effectively phase out the lencarta branded softboxes? There seems to be very few on the website now with lots of them out of stock, but there also appears to be a lot of godox/neewer branded ones available. Just wondering is Lencarta are now happy that the godox/neewer ones are good enough to phase out their own brand, or whether it is just as simple as low stock currently.

Thanks,

Col

There are some supply problems with the unique Lencarta softboxes, because the manufacturer sometimes struggles to keep up with demand.

Sadly, the majority of people don't appreciate quality and seem to prefer the cheaper Godox and Neewer-branded versions. This seems to be a clear trend with lighting products now.

But although the Lencarta softbox range has been reduced, I understand that there are no plans to discontinue it.

How long have you been looking? All Asian origin ocean freight is unexpectedly running several weeks late due to the Suez situation, and will get temporarily worse when the glut of ships first diverted hit the uk/eu ports at the same time.

Only started looking a week or so before Christmas. With some stuff on lencarta it says out of stock, expected back in on xx date, their soft boxes have a notify me when back in stock instead hence the confusion. That’s a good point on the shipping side of things though

From personal experience such items need to be evaluated and judged on a case by case basis, and also do a bit of thinking as in the case of super deep softboxes that only waste space. They All make great and not so great products and like-wise the QC. The best idea is to head down to a showroom to avoid unexpected surprises.

Just a bit of an update on this, I think a couple of the lencarta softboxes may have been discontinued, the redline profold 95cm has definitely been replaced with the EZ pro folding 80cm and when I asked about a larger version I was given a link to the godox p90L model.

And there lies the problem. The public (generally) just want to buy at the lowest possible price, so there are very few bricks and mortar retailers left. And those that do exist generally only carry the stock that offers the highest profit, so they offer very little choice. And their staff often know little or nothing about the products.

OK, I'll get an update next time I speak with the boss there.

It's also less obvious to the less experienced what the advantages the more expensive products offer - the most obvious (from my perspective) is the easy open 'umbrella' style rather than fixed rods, but there are cheaper options that also use this - for an 'occasional' user, it's easy to think that the cheap option will be 'good enough' - particularly if it's half the price.

I'm not sure about Lencarta, but Essential Photo (godox and own branded which is not always godox) have an actual shop near Birmingham, and also you can find some items in places like WEX so definitely well worth going in and asking for a quick demo. So not all doom and gloom.

I actually find Karl Taylor on youtube very useful. He does explain and showcase modifier types very clearly without any buls***ting what does what, what works well, and what is a waste of studio space and money at all budget levels.

Personally I wouldn't; because deeper just isn't any better ; also a good chance you will need a C-stand with boom arm for anything like this.
just for reference only - find something similar looking
