I prefer the darker version as the lighter ones seem to detract from the Aurora, lovely images.

Well, at least someone got out and saw the Aurora (another fail for me). I'm with the others here, foreground even darker than you've processed it and potentially less saturation for a more realistic look

But what is real? I’ve seen them dancing and white in Orkney (a few years ago) and that comes out pale green and purple on camera, I’ve also seen them not appear at all to the eye and appear green on camera…

So to be technically correct in this case I shouldn’t have any aurora as I couldn’t see it with my eyes…

I’m all for realism but ‘what is real’ and the extent you deviate from that - as in the above example - is all subjective
