Nikon Z* mirrorless

Has anyone had any focus issues slice updating to 5.32?

I took a run of frames today (one attached) and all were soft. I put them in Nikon studio to Chers the focus point and it was on the birds head. I was on wide small with bird detect active. I have taken shots like this before 5.32 and they have been sharp.

I would not expect the AF to catch that, except by good luck or a slim chance.
Loads of highlights amongst the branches and the birds eyes are difficult to pick out.

Had a really good time with the 400 4.5, carried it with the Z8 for 4-5 hours at the weekend and didn’t care about the weight at all.

Noticed that at 4.5, the eye AF on the Z8 was really sticky, didn’t miss the eye at all but anything over 5.6, it was a bit hit and miss, locking onto ears, struggling to locate the eye or finding the eye but not tracking.

Got around 2000 pictures to sort through, 1/1000 of a sec, 20fps burst and they soon add up!

It's big, it's heavy (for me) but it's very versatile and for the money it's impossible to beat.
Thanks. That's really helpful. I'm restarting my photography journey after a (very) long hiatus. I am considering this lens as a purchase in the near future and maybe teaming it with a 24-120 f/4 . Looks like I'll just need to start regularly going to the gym. Great photos. Thanks for sharing.

Those are the two lenses I pack when I don't know what I'll encounter, covers everything.
I had thought about taking my 400mm f/4.5 as it's epic, but it's no where near as versatile.

Does anyone has experience using a infra-red or full spectrum modified Z7? I really miss having a infra-red camera since moving to Nikon Z and thinking about having my Z7 modified to full spectrum and using clip-in filters for both normal photography and infra-red. My only real concern is the impact of PDAF banding and how this might impact images.

Not been out with the Z8 much lately so I made a conscious decision to get out during my lunch break to se what I could spot. Took my Nikon 180-600, but in the hour or so, didn't see too much but did get this quick clip of a Eurasian Wren in the undergrowth (shot at 120fps and slowed down)

Hmmmm currently mulling over getting a 500mm f5.6 PF , I love the I.q I get with the 180-600 ,but wondering if the 500 pf would be better . I currently have a F mount tc 2 mkiii and could easily get 1.4 as well
I have looked at the 600mm Z pf but it’s just pushing things to far financially ..
good move / poor move or just sit on it for a bit ??

just watched a few reviews and the 180-600 came out tops so probably put this one to bed and wait till I can afford the z mount pf

At an impasse at the moment , been wondering whether to upgrade and or downgrade some of my lenses or even buy another body ?
I have quite a few F mount lenses a lot which have been checked on purchase then put away unused . I was tempted tonight by a couple of viltrox lenses a 85mm f2 and a 85mm f1.8 but I already have a Nikon F mount 85mm f1.8 never used in anger
The next option was a 300mm afs if Ed f4 in excellent condition ,had one before that produced stunning shots it’s light fast and will a.f on Z mount via FTZii adaptor plus it’s close focus ability is a godsend . Still in two minds on this one ?
And finally was also debating getting a Z50ii for a backup but then realised I have DX mode on the Z8 which I often/always forget to use so not much point to do aa job I can already do . Will mull it over for a hour or two
I could also go back to a dslr such as a d7200 to use some of my F lenses without adaptors ??

Update in the end I went for the 300mm f4 having had one before , it’s light ,sharp takes t,c’s well and has good close focus plus the price is now rock bottom.
Just been through my old photos on Flickr from when I previously had one of these lenses all 350 plus of them and there’s a lot that made explore back then , some of my all time fave shots in there , just hoping it’s as good on mirrorless as the reports say it is
