Cotswold Cameras

My very recent 1st time experience buying from Cotswold cameras.
Ordered a Panasonic 100-300 f4-5.6 mk11 on 7th may.
On the 10th may after telling a photographer acquaintenance of mine what I had ordered he said he had a Panasonic Leica 100-400 Mk 1 he was thinking of selling.
He offered it to me at a great price, which I accepted.
On the 11th may the new 100-300 arrived from Cotswold cameras.
After an explanation to David at Cotswold the 100-300 was returned (unopened)
Today I have received notification of my refund.
Brilliant friendly efficient service,

'don't know how they do it'? Simple I think, we get ripped off by our Government when it comes down to import duty and other taxes you pay when buying in the UK, the UK shop have to pay taxes on there imported goods so they have to pass that on also then you have the OTT profit shops make and before anyone says they have to make a living many years ago when I sea fished I bought an ABU multiplier from a UK based dealer who sold it to me for £120 new at that same time other outlets where selling them at £170 - £180 when I asked how he could sell at such a low price he told me they only pay around £70 wholesale and he would rather sell cheaper and sell more but still make a profit.
Russ.

Last year I bought a Samsung QLED 4K TV in Thailand.... Cost me £470.... the same TV in this country was priced at £800. Yes we get ripped off, but that much of a difference is not down to tax

No, theres manufacturing and logistics costs, Regional regulations like WEEE in EU / UK as well as other factors. Did you bring the TV back to the UK with you?

Just making my first real foray into photography. Already have a Sony a7iii from a UK retailer a few weeks ago but I’m desperate to get into some macro wildlife photography.
So ordered a 100mm Sony macro yesterday arvo, holiday Monday, from Cotswold as it was over £400 cheaper. Now that’s a saving I can appreciate!

Will update when I take delivery, but having read through this thread, I’m not worried at all. Plus I used PayPal so basically no risk to me :)

No, I bought it for our house in Thailand....

But it's not just TV's that are cheaper.... Lots of things are cheaper...

Sorry to have this as a first post here.

Placed my first order on tuesday, and already yesterday I received a UPS tracking number showing a shipment planned from a german warehouse to me in Belgium.
Indication was: label created, delivery on Friday (today).
This morning, update from UPS. Delivery rescheduled, info will follow when we have the package.

Is this the normal process?

Maybe contact Cotswold Cameras, they're very responsive and helpful.
It may just be that UPS have the parcel but it's delayed in their network. I've used Cotswold for some big ticket purchases, one lens I bought from them was over £8k, and I've never had any problems.

Tracking is the only thing that I think they could do better.

My last order had a DPD email about a day after order, but tracking of it never showed anything.
About a week later I get a DHL message saying it’s out for delivery.
About 2 days later ( after I already have it ) I get an email from Cotswolds saying it’s due for delivery.
And about another week later an email saying order is now complete

I will only start to harass them when de 10 days are over and there is no info. After all, I ordered only 3 days ago.
Just wanted to check the process so far.

That happens because they send the info of the package to DPD, so DPD essentially have the order, but until the package arrives in the UK and is physically with them, that's when the actual tracking starts.

I had the same with another company, I got the alert from USP that they were expecting a parcel for me, took 3 days and when it arrived at Heathrow I could then track it through the UK.

they do clearly state on their site - Standard UK delivery takes approximately 7–14 working days, while standard EU delivery takes approximately 10–14 working days. So it can be up to 14 days realistically before a chase might be valid

Just to clear up the confusion, the earlier Ltd company used the same URL, both also had the same registered address in London until the 17th June when the Final Gazette shows the company dissolved via voluntary strike-off. On the 22nd June the current company changed their registered address. Seems to have been a planned transition.

I’ve always been very happy with their service, apart from only being notified by DPD that it is out for delivery. Worth registering an account if your ordering and you get point, got a good amount off my last order using up my points.

I did open an account. The order mentions: processing.
