Got the van back from the garage last night, going to spend the day getting it ready then going to set off again. A few week traveling along the Spey valley then down and along Deeside before heading to the daughters for some dog sitting.

Have you checked Tassimo's own prices? We had to replace ours a few weeks back (bar code reader window fnurked!) and Tassimo were the cheapest place to get the replacement
 
WCMUT is having some useable internet. Too hot to do much else anyway so sitting in the open doorway with the lappy shrouded in a blackout curtain, hoping the breeze doesn't fire the towel clip over the balcony...
 
IIRC, ours was the same price at both but the Tassimo store threw in 5 packs of assorted coffees. Delivered (as are our pod orders) by Amazon.

I treated myself to a Trek District+5 XL for my early retirement. It should have been 5k, but because it was last year's model with a 725wh battery instead of the newer 800wh, it was reduced by £1750. I have done 272 miles in 28 days so far. Had to go for +5 has it has a higher weight carrying capacity.

I got it to replace a 10 year old model with over 4000 miles on it. I was ahead of the curve, got my first ebike 17 years ago.

I have got to admit that the Trek is the best I've had, it has the CVT gears (fully automatic) and the problem I had buying ebikes was getting one big enough for me. I'm 6'2" so the Trek XL is a perfect fit, I dare say I might have managed with a large, but I would probably had to have the seat post up 4/5".
 
Today is a milestone for my wife and I. Last year we got our GOG (genuine old git) bus passes, today we used them for the first time. We parked at Bluewater shopping centre and took the bus to Dartford, where we bought some quality, fruit, veg, spices and a couple of Polish Pilsner beers from an International shop. We had a good walk around and then came home, before it got too hot. It was an adventure which we both enjoyed, so we will have get a bit braver next time and try further afield.
 
First game of g*lf since holiday - 3 1/2 weeks off...

Despite a blob (non scoring hole), I managed 24 Stableford points over 9 holes. MOST unusual for me - I usually have a couple of decent holes but 4 pars in a round is a first.

Got mine at the begining of the year...great aren't they...shame they don't work on trains!
 
My normal rounds are between 12 and 20 points - mainly at the lower end!

It was 7 nett birdies/eagles with one blob and a nett single bogey.

The course is only a 33 par 9 holes (with a few extra tee spots for s slightly different "back 9") and about 2 1/2 - 3 miles around it (depending on zig-zags...)

Typically, I hadn't signed in to the computer so the score's non-counting. My usual first-round-after-holiday is up in the mid 50s rather than low 40s and it was a social, hybrid (stroke and matchplay) round.

Expecting normal service to resume on Thursday!
 
Following on from yesterday, I bought a couple of cans of beer in the international shop 568ml can of Kalnapilis Grand Select, from Lithuania, which turned out to be a very good, pilsner style continental beer. It was £2.59, so not cheap, but very good VFM. It reminded me a lot of the German and Austrian beers I had back in Salzburg, Vienna and Regensburg, back in 2017 and 2019, pre pandemic.

 
It was our 9th wedding anniversary recently but as Mrs WW is abroad looking after her mam there wasn't a great rush to find a card and a present, she did say she didn't want any presents but I can't resist buying a few token things. Willow is apparently a traditional 9th present so I ordered what I thought was a willow bead bracelet off Etsy, it came late but as there's no rush I wasn't bothered. When it came I saw it's the length of a necklace but I think the idea is that you wrap it around your wrist a few times, I did see the picture on the website but I hadn't realised. Honestly it's gorgeous, I'm really pleased with the quality. They do say on the website that the bracelets are really just a sampler for their beads but the quality is IMO outstanding and to me it looks like it should cost multiples of the price I paid.

Anyway. I'm very happy with it and I've contacted them to ask if they'll do a smaller bracelet to just go once around a wrist to make a necklace and bracelet set. Just in case anyone wants to see their website I've included it below. I'm hoping the name appeals to Mrs WW as her late father was a gem dealer.

He's right, I turned over, then fell asleep, but luckily woke up to see Spain win and the disgusting Argentinian behaviour post match. Glad Spain won and Mbappe got the Golden Boot ward.

I thought Shakira was good, but the rest was pretty awful.

Argentina set out to hack their way to the trophy, disgusting behaviour at the end of the game.
 
I've just seen the first hedgehog this year. He had to forage for himself as I haven't got anything in for hedgehogs. It was lovely to see one again. We've had lots in previous years but I didn't think I was going to see any this year and then one turns up :D

I was reading a review of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and noticed that it is their first phone to use a silicon-carbon battery, which is I believe far superior in capacity to the traditional graphite anode ones. But apparently silicon-carbon batteries can expand by as much as 300% during charging and of course shrink by up to the same during discharge, causing the anode to crack.

When looking up the solution to this I came across:

Silicon-carbon batteries solve this by grinding the silicon into microscopic particles and embedding them in a carbon matrix. The carbon acts as a buffer to absorb the physical swelling and maintain structural stability.

So WCMUT? Reading about innovations like this. There's some very smart people around.
 
Went up to Blackfriars this afternoon to see Andy Earl's retrospective, https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/andy-earl-x-bankside-yards-tickets-1987689833800 it is actually a free to enter gallery I just used the link for convenience. Anyone into or was into 1980's / 1990's bands would recognise many of the photos from the covers of their record collection, well worth popping in for a look if you are in town.

I enjoyed chatting with Andy and reminiscing about some of the folk I worked with in the 1990's, the afternoon was topped off with a pint overlooking the river in the Anchor Bankside, a very enjoyable afternoon.
