RX10 V

I'm not sure i quite see the point with Bridge cameras being obsolete nowadays

When the price drops, I might well buy one. Great compromise as a holiday camera.

BTW, this is already under discussion in another thread...

The discussion is in this thread I'm guessing:

I think it's worth having its own thread for visibility though and specifically for the mkV.

I guess Sony see a market for this type of camera although I'm surprised there isn't an updated RX100 which I think has more use in the current market. The mk7 has a micro USB socket so to get around the EU rules they've been apparently shipping it with a micro USB charger instead although when I looked last time they seemed to be in short supply worldwide. I find the RX100mk7 very handy because it's small enough to fit in a jacket pocket unlike most of my cameras and the 200mm focal range means it can take shots the phone just can't.

I can see the appeal of a fixed lens all in one camera with a great zoom range and the 1in sensor is a good step up from the tiny 1/2.3in sensor in most bridge cameras. However I did buy one in the past but I struggled to find a use for it because if I had space to take the RX10 out, I could take a mirrorless camera with a superzoom lens. I know everything is expensive these days but the RX10 V seems a lot compared to the mirrorless cameras out there and while people will point to the reach of the RX10's lens, I wouldn't say it's comparable to a bigger sensor at 600mm since there's a lot more scope to crop.

While i don't think it's worth it's price tag, I'd have still forked out for one if they hadn't gimped it artificially.
They should have added pre-capture at the minimum but could have added fully articulated LCD and better EVF

I take a 10 and a 100 on holiday. As you say, the 100 slips into a pocket (even in its leather case!) and covers most situations for snaps but the 10 has all that extra reach for when it's needed (or wanted!)

I tend to use separate chargers rather than doing it in the cameras and they both use USB micro rather than C... A selection of cables helps.

I guess we'll see how it sells. I do suspect it wont be as popular as it once was as people use their phones nowadays.
Apart from die hard rx10 owners im not sure many others will buy this.

I doubt you could get a more polarised photography choice than between a Sony RX10 V and a mobile phone ? :$

My daughter bought a s/h RX10iii last year - she was out volunteering with a marine charity for 3 weeks, with a 1 week mini safari in Namiba tacked on the end - the RX10 was the right combination of size/weight/reach/quality for a trip like that, where there were significant restrictions on what she could take as carry on - once the price drops below £2k I think there will be more demand for the Rx10v, but it's not going to be high volumes.

Oh i don't disagree though personally for safari's which i go on as often as possible i want the best quality possible so always take a lens system

The safari was an 'add-on' at the end of a 3 week trip (she did get to visit a bird sanctuary and elephant sanctuary in SA, as well as take photos of the whales, dolphins, etc she was observing as part of the volunteering).
She simply didn't have the baggage allowance to have a significantly larger camera - the alternative was an a6xxx + 70-350G + something in the 16-50 range, but that was more expensive, meant lens changes, etc. For her, the RX10 gave a significant step up in quality and reach over the smartphone in a reasonably lightweight and compact package.

I have just started looking at downgrading (Is that the correct word?) to an RX10 V. I'm just not using my Nikon Z50ii anymore. Mainly due to the weight and bulk of the Nikon Z 100-400mm. I've got to the stage where I just can't be bothered to carry it all day in tge hope of a nice wildlife photo opportunity.
My thoughts are to trade in the Z50ii with Z18-140 & Z100-400 and get a bridge type that both my wife and I can use as a 'carry everywhere' camera.
My research has so far shown thst the RX10 IV or V are the only real contenders, and even though they're pricey, as a single camera/lens outfit, I don't see any other options.

There are loads of examples of what the RX10iv can do in the ‘High End Bridge Cameras’ thread and feel free to ask any questions you might have.

I’ve had the Mk4 for ages and now have a Mk5 on order via Cotswolds :)
I emailed Cotswolds yesterday asking about the RX10V as it doesn't show on their website.
I've almost discounted other brands ?Coolpix), but I'm still on the fence as to whether to spend £1600-£1700 on a used mkIV, or splash out the extra £500ish on a new mkV.
My biggest concern is that my long suffering partner is becoming my long suffering wife in 5 weeks, and we're going away on a 3 week tour of Greek Islands, so I must have the camera before that time.

Well Cotswolds have quoted me £1759 with delivery ‘early August’ (tbc) for a Mk5 and my Mk4 will soon be available for around £1400 so you’ve got a couple of decent options there:)
