When Masking something, often trees or a building I want to go really tight to the edge of that building but I always find that the brush tool seems to impact pixels outside the bounds (circle) of the tool. Often its quite a significant distance - which makes it hard to mask accurately unless using a really really small brush size

Can anyone shed any light on what controls this and how to adjust it?

I guess it could be something to do with hardness (which I always set at zero) but even then I'd expect that to be confined to the bounds of the brush?

Do you mean the halos, that go around trees and buildings, when you have brushed around them ?

If you’re setting your hardness to zero I’d have thought that’s most likely your problem. You’ve got a really soft brush that’s feathering off making it difficult to stick to edges :)

The best way to describe it is to show you. As you can see I have a specific sized circular brush but the area of the stroke/click is not confied to this area, which makes it very hard to work with when using a feather/or low hardness. especially blending masks.

Ideally I want the lack of hardness but confined to the brush area, so I know what I am working with. At the moment because it impacts outside the brush perimeter I really am sailing blind all the time

Forget selection, this is not about different ways of doing a mask, this is understanding how the brush works....

edit: seems like the message above in relation to that comment has been deleted or Ive been blocked as its no longer there!
