Just had to renew my passport , in previous years it’s been fairly straightforward… but now they require a digital photo .. why ? When the one on my old passport is on file , but o.k I’m a photographer so read the rules got the wife to take the photo uploaded it ,came back as fair , tried again with a better one came back as poor . Saw my bum so went to the post office paid £10 for 4 pics with a code went straight through identical to my own photos .total rip off Britain at its best .
What with that and holiday insurance age + meds it’s been a bloody expensive day .very annoyed

To be fair, I don't know anyone now who doesn't use a "photo booth" so much easier, and often cheaper in the long run. If £10 makes a holiday expensive, then maybe choose a different holiday.

I did our last (recent) passport photos here against a Magnolia wall using the ceiling lights. Took a minute or 2 to set the camera (Fuji X30) up on a tripod - job done.

If you could see the home photo side by side with the Photo Booth one then you would know what I’m on about . It’s not about the money just the agravation

all I can say is the older you get the worse it becomes - I'm 80 this year, travel insurance, car insurance and car rentals are just 3 areas

dunno i renewed mine last year and did it with my phone i am sure there is an app for it?

It was the same for me Jeff. Did it online it took 4 re takes as the AI said it's too bright, too dark. In the end moving it a stop each time it worked.
Don't get me started on insurance ffs

Did ours at home, had to redo one, but both were then accepted.
Use Avanti for our yearly travel insurance, price is ok for the areas we need covered.
Some of the hotter countries are excluded and cruises, neither of which we have any interest in.
They paid out last year when a fairly expensive holiday was cancelled when my wife fractured her hip.

I did mine and my kids with my phone. Dead easy and done in minutes. I would be suprised if people on this forum struggled to take a simple passport pic!

I've just done mine using my mobile. Took me about 3 attempts but once I worked out they needed a bright, flat lighting style - probably not what you would use for a typical portrait ! - it worked OK

That's the problem! People try to use flattering portraits as passport pics rather than the bland record shots required.

the whole assport photo thing is so the AI can match your features and ID you on the auto robot gates
