Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

I fancy a slightly wider lens for occasional use. Thinking of maybe a 9-18 as it’s about 1/2the price of a 2nd hand 7-14. Could maybe squeeze to an 8-25, but that will wipe out my cash reserves.

Anyone have any thoughts on those options.

The 9-18 is optically very good, and light. However it feels cheap (it is), not weather resistant, and to some having to “unlock” the lens to return it to the collapsed state. Probably the best choice if it’s only for intermittent use.

Have you considered the Panasonic Leica 9mm? An excellent lens.

Just put my plastic fantastic 40-150 up in the classifieds.

Sold my 40-150 2.8 and moving over tho the f4 pro version

The OM teaser video shows a rangefinder style camera, and the rumours sites say it will be an OM PEN but more like a e-P7 with EVF rather than a Pen-F.

It is speculated it will use a 20MP sensor, but i've read conflicting opinions whether it will be:
  1. OM-5 sensor with TruePic IX processor (effectively rebodied OM-5 II)
  2. OM-5 sensor with TruePic X processor (hybrid between OM-5 and OM-3)
  3. OM-1/OM-3 stacked sensor with TruePic X processor (rebodied OM-3)
Given OM System's lack of R&D up to now, I would say it is most likely to be 1. The second would make sense to me, but they didn't upgrade the processor for the OM-5 II, so I am doubtful they would do it here. The third option would need to be tuned down as the body is not big enough for the the battery from OM-3.

I am curious where it will sit in the product line up and what the pricing will be.

That was my original hope, I've been considering an OM-1 mark II, but have been hesitating/delaying mostly due to budget reasons. If a mark III came out it would increase the chances of a reduced price on the II, or make more available on the used market.

The talk about the III seems to have disappeared since the PEN was teased, unfortunately.

For a different use case, I might be interested in a PEN model too, if the price to functionality is right.
