Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

I fancy a slightly wider lens for occasional use. Thinking of maybe a 9-18 as it’s about 1/2the price of a 2nd hand 7-14. Could maybe squeeze to an 8-25, but that will wipe out my cash reserves.

Anyone have any thoughts on those options.

The 9-18 is optically very good, and light. However it feels cheap (it is), not weather resistant, and to some having to “unlock” the lens to return it to the collapsed state. Probably the best choice if it’s only for intermittent use.

Have you considered the Panasonic Leica 9mm? An excellent lens.

Any thoughts on the announcement due on September 9th?
The OM teaser video shows a rangefinder style camera, and the rumours sites say it will be an OM PEN but more like a e-P7 with EVF rather than a Pen-F.

It is speculated it will use a 20MP sensor, but i've read conflicting opinions whether it will be:
  1. OM-5 sensor with TruePic IX processor (effectively rebodied OM-5 II)
  2. OM-5 sensor with TruePic X processor (hybrid between OM-5 and OM-3)
  3. OM-1/OM-3 stacked sensor with TruePic X processor (rebodied OM-3)
Given OM System's lack of R&D up to now, I would say it is most likely to be 1. The second would make sense to me, but they didn't upgrade the processor for the OM-5 II, so I am doubtful they would do it here. The third option would need to be tuned down as the body is not big enough for the the battery from OM-3.

I am curious where it will sit in the product line up and what the pricing will be.

Thanks for your input. I'd be interested in a new OM1-style body so if it's a range-finder I'll be giving it a miss.
That was my original hope, I've been considering an OM-1 mark II, but have been hesitating/delaying mostly due to budget reasons. If a mark III came out it would increase the chances of a reduced price on the II, or make more available on the used market.

The talk about the III seems to have disappeared since the PEN was teased, unfortunately.

For a different use case, I might be interested in a PEN model too, if the price to functionality is right.

I have the same version on OI Share on my iPad and iPhone, but when transferring to the iPad, it has stopped transferring the exif data.

Anyone else seen this ?

Just heard that John Perriment, a stalwart of the UK E-System User Group, has passed away. I knew John personally from the early days of that group, and met with him on many occasions. Sadly, he had health problems even then.

Has anyone tried the SG-Image 25 mm on and MFT camera ?

Tempted to try it on my newly acquired GF1

Is it possible to refocus while capturing 120 or 240 fps video on the OM1 mk2?

I've just received my OM1 Mk2. Normal autofocus and noise performance are exceeding my expectations, which is wonnderful!

However, I cannot refocus while I'm capturing 120/240 fps. I've been shooting a lot of wildlife at 120 on the em1 Mk 3/ 100-400 f5.6 and very often I focus as I'm shooting.

I'm hoping that I'm just not setting it up properly.

After taking the Olympus E-420 on holiday and thanking myself I didn't take a load of heavier gear with me, I thought I'd get something a little newer, I'm thinking of either getting an adapter or getting the MFT 9-18 lens, I'll seen be selling my Nikon Z7ii and a few lenses soon, and a few other Nikon cameras.

I'm presently recovering from an OP and not allowed to carry anything heavy for another month or more so my Sony gear is presently a no go and not getting out with the camera is killing me :(

However after doing more macro and doing some research online I'm tempted to pick up an OM-1 Mk II for the light weight and stabilsation etc.

Looks like used ones don't come up very often (shame as I'm off work) so I'm thinking Camera, walkabout lens and a Macro.

There seems to be 2 options with the camera 12-40 f2.8 and 12-100 f4. I've not used this camera or lenses so which would be the best option?

Also regarding the Macro my initial thought was the 90mm but is the 60mm a good option considering difference in price?

60mm is a cracking macro lens and available dirt cheap secondhand. The only real trade off is working distance which the 90mm gives you more of which might be useful for timid insects and bugs ?

I was watching a Robin Wong video on YouTube the other day before the release of the 90mm macro and he got some awesome photos using the 60mm macro and an off camera flash with a diffuser. No tripod. Using the camera (an em5 iii) and lens in one hand and flash in the other.
