Nikon Z* mirrorless

Not yet ,will it work with a 180-600 though .. that’s probably doubtful giving a apeture of circa F13….. looking at my two previous pigeon in flight shots both taken with the 1.4 Nikon tc that = 840mm @ f9 surely with the 50mp sensor size you don’t need a 1200 mm reach I.e distortion and heat haze come into play at that range

Was more of a general question as I wouldn’t want to pair it with that lens for the reasons you have mentioned. Keen to know if it’s on par with Nikon and Sonys tc as it’s not horribly priced.

Trouble is what lens/es do you pair it with , anyone that has the expensive logical ones will have enough spare cash to buy Nikon ! I had a look on juza ,and Flickr and did a google and can’t find any photos using one . The answer may lie in Chinese users . I will take a gander at u.tube in a bit

Z5IIC announced, as many predicted no EVF which is understandable if they're trying to appeal to a different market. The big flaw though is that they've stuck a cheap low spec screen on it. Make it make sense

whats the price? thats the key thing for me. the camera isnt for me, as id struggle without an evf. am used to poor screens though, having owned a bunch of sonys.

but if the price is right, this could be great option for my partner or daughter to use as neither are used to using an evf.

Camera only £1349 Jonathan

Can’t see the point of it, but I’m not into video so perhaps that’s where the appeal lies.
(I own the Z5ii which is a capable camera.)

For video you need a bright screen, this doesn't have it , so as you say I don't see the point either.

Have you tried the Z mount macro compared to this Sigma? Seems like a great option, that Sigma 150 looks very good for such a cheap lens now, I can see it online for under £200.
I haven’t. I had this sigma lens years ago and thought I’d give it another go with mirrorless.

This is the OS version so the optics are better than the original non OS version and it’s stabilised. If you can find this OS version that under £200 it’s a no brainer must buy.

Ah yes I see the price difference now, the OS version is still under £300 in some places but average price seems to be between £3-400..

You might want to consider the 105 os version. It’s cheaper and not as heavy. The 150mm is relatively big and heavy when you take into account the ftz adapter too. May or may not be an issue.

A bit disappointed with the announcement of the Z5iiC, think Nikon missed a trick there, especially given how popular the Zf appears to have been.

Thought Nikon may have been a bit bolder, but then again…

I’ll most likely get the Nikon Z version as it’s available for £570 via grey.

It’s available in most UK retailers for £699 so not that much cheaper this time.

Anybody recently used E- Infinity for gear, are they good. Are they uk based? I usually use panamoz. TIA

But it's aimed at an identified (and fairly narrow) market of phone users who want to move up to a "proper" camera.

While not a camera for me, it seems a good decision to get into this market, while not spending too much time or money on development and tooling. It's very much what was rumoured.

As well as telling us they would be tackling this market, Nikon have also promised an expansion of their retro range.

I can't see much overlap between the buyers of this camera and the buyers of a new Zf based retro model, and we have another two new models to look forward to (this is one of three new models Nikon have registered) which are almost certainly not the Z9II or Z8II.

Apart from being a small/low cost special use/ backup camera, I don't think Nikon expects the Z5IIc to excite people in photography forums.

Take a look at the f.mount Nikon 105G I can’t fault mine

Nikon Z6iii + 24-120, really need to sort a decent zoom lens out, this is cropped quite a lot.

I've been considering a ZR as a smaller camera to accompany my Z8 but it seems overkill and the controls are video focused rather than stills focused. So I do like the look of the Z5IIC and wondering if putting price aside there's any reason to consider the ZR instead, I guess it has the better sensor with the partially stacked Z6III sensors but is there anything else?

Massive difference not just in size but quality of the screen. If you don't do flash just get the ZR, one of the best cameras ever made imo.

Only the NoNikkor 35mm Manual Focus f1.4 made by Artralab.
This one.

I'm interested in what basis you're suggesting the ZR. I've been keeping a close eye on it but feedback seems very mixed and what concerns me is the video focused controls and criticism of the partially stacked sensor for being behind standard sensors on dynamic range. The ZR is also a lot more expensive at £2000 RRP vs £1350 for the Z5IIC which makes it more appealing as a secondary camera.

On the other hand though I notice the Zr is only £1300 from Panamoz at the moment and the ZR to my surprise is actually smaller than the Z5IIC, I thought it would be the other way round. I certainly wouldn't be using flash with the Zr since I find it fairly hopeless with the Z8 due to the lack of AF assist on the flash so I have an old D750 still for that.

We've had this convo before John. There's a lot of sad people out there that post crap from a spec sheet, ignore them is my advice, the dynamic range is great. As for the controls i'm not sure what you mean, almost everything is controlled via the screen rather than physical dials, that's how they keep it so small and light. Panamoz with 3 yr warranty at that price is a no brainer.

Plenty of images on my Flickr taken with a ZR, at the end of the day the IQ is what counts. If you're wondering about the colours I use a Kodak Portra 400 profile in LR but you can obviously just use the standard Nikon profiles.
