New Affinity?

I've just downloaded it, what we need are some video tutorials, the text articles are pretty much useless :(

I installed it yesterday and didn't like. Have now removed it.

And for the astrophotography boys

Astro in Affinity.jpg

Perhaps they can use the custom studio and give us some feedback?

They are going further and further away from the Affinity UI, which I assume is their plan to use it as a stepping stone to Canva.
I find I am hardly using the new Affinity now, and keep going back to V2.

The logical and intuitive UI of the proper Affinity was its strong point and edge over other programmes, without that it is nothing special.

:plus1: Just don't like or need the new version and now it's linking to DXO it'll probably all end up working out more expensive than Adobe.

I'll just keep going with PL5 and original Affinity, which works fine for me.

Me too I tried to get on with the new Affinity but have now gone back to the original version
I have version 2 on my Mac unfortunately only version 1 on PC but still prefer it to the new one
Unfortunately it is no longer possible to buy version 2

I'm only half following the Affinity story, but are people aware of Robin Whalley's introduction to Affinity 3.

I've had a few of his books over the years and found them to be very good. This is a replacement for his previous Affinity Photo books, and might be useful for anyone moving from the "old" to the "new".

It's a £9 download

All of his books I've bought have been Mac based, but he has always explained any differences between the two OSs.

As it's a long time since I've seriously used Windows I don't know how well he does this, but in the intro to this book, he says there is very little difference in the interfaces between Windows and Mac.

Thanks Graham will have a look at that book
Think I will have to get used to the new Affinity eventually as DXO are working to integrate photolab together with Affinity Canva
I am hoping that it will be possible to work on a mask in DXO then further work on that in Affinity, at the moment its not there yet

Not with Affinity, but Capture One has recently added the ability for masks created in C1 to be round-tripped as layers in Photoshop, so the possibility is probably there for DXO to do something similar with Affinity.

C1 has also added the ability to round-trip native Affinity files, but not the masking/layer feature.

I wasn't even aware of it until I saw this thread. I downloaded it and had a very quick play. I'm not really the target audience, I generally only crop, straighten and occasionally clone items out in my photos, and after editing a couple of shots from last night, switched back to Affinity Photo 2. I'll have another look at it at some point I expect, but for now I don't think it's got much for me.

It's basically the three Serif Affinity programs (including Photo 2) bundled into a single package, which was Serifs intention from the outset, Plus from new features added by Canva.

For all "pure" photographers, it's probably an overkill (unless you routinely use Photoshop), but if you want to do some DTP or vector editing, it's a great program to get for free.

I remember when they made it all free earlier this year (I think? Might even have been last year), and there was talk of this. I love the idea of it, but it's a sledgehammer to crack a nut for me. If Photo 2 stops working I'd be happy to switch to the new version, I'm just feeling too lazy today to spend time finding where the bits I need are now :)

Like others here I've got both Photo 2 and the new Affinity on my PC, and like the others I find Photo 2 to be the better version for my needs.

I've updated Affinity to v3.3.0, is there supposed to be a significant difference from v2?
Did you watch the video?

Just to clarify, do you mean the Serif Affinity v2 "graphics" suite (all three Affinity programs), or only Serif Affinity "Photo" v2.

This will "significantly" change the answer to your question.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear It was what you meant by v2 I was asking, not v3, where there is no ambiguity.

There is only "one" Affinity v3, but there are "three" different Affinity v2s (as part of the Affinity graphics suite: Photo, Designer and Publisher), which Serif designed as an integrated suite but could be bought as a suite or as individual programs.

The take over by Canva combined these into a single program, so when you ask about the differences between v2 and v3, it depends on whether you mean Affinity Photo v2, or all the programs in the Affinity v2 graphics suite, because Canva Affinity only comes as a full v2 suite replacement.

Canva has tweaked some aspects of all the Serif Canva 2 graphics suite programs, but there are probably few significant changes to any of the individual v2 programs in v3, but a significant change if you are comparing, an individual v2 program with the combination of all three programs in Canva Affinity.

You mentioned in a later post designing book covers, so Canva Affinity 3, with its DTP tools, may be more useful than the tools available in Serif Affinity Photo 2, but no more useful than the tools in Serif Affinity Publisher 2.

Or maybe I've completely missed the point of your question :-(
