Thank you. I only recently got a Nikon D200. I have decided to shoot jpeg exclusively with it, it's easier and quicker than raw, and I like the photos straight out of the camera so much that I'm barely editing them for the most part, sometimes not at all.I've always had a soft spot for the colours that the D200 produces. Nice photos![]()

hijack by jeff cohen, on Flickrcertain cameras and trust me I've had more than a few tend to stand out for there exceptional iq , my fave over the years have been canon 1Dmkiii think I had about 6 in total sold them regretted it bought another etc , the nikon D300s had about 3 I think the Olympus e.m1x is another .. those bodies tend to stick out in my memory .. as soon as I sold my D500 I regretted it luckily it was to a good friend who didn't like it so its come back nearly a year later as sold ,just exchanged for a unused lens of mineI need your opinions on my questionable GAS please.
I remember vividly when the D3 and D700 were released and that awestruck feeling seeing the images they could produce. At the time I was using a used D2H which I loved the feel of, but not the images it made. I never could afford or justify the cost of moving to full frame. So I never did get one.
My journey took me via a D300 (nice upgrade from D2H) and then a D7100 (sidewise step that I was never 100 happy with) before I ended up with a Z6 (very nice and have no desire to 'upgrade'). I'm living with an FTZ for the considerable future given the price of Z glass vs used F glass.
But now I'm looking at used prices and getting nostalgic for a D3 (s)/D700. YouTube has loads of people still raving about them, which hasn't helped matters.
I have recently been trying to reduce my thoughts about sharpness and noise being so important - I now much prefer images with some noise in them. I'm more keen on photos that look like memories rather than forensic crime scene clinical documentary photos. I also don't do video.
So would you buy a D700 or D3 today?
Am I blinded with rose tinted glasses of nostalgia?

feeling blue by jeff cohen, on FlickrThanks. I'm thinking that given current prices I could pick one up and in a year or so decide whether to keep it and probably loose very little on it.The D3 was great in it's time but the D3S is noticeably better in the dark. I still use one sometimes.
If you loved the D2 colours then the D3 and D700 can replicate them with the right picture controls.
All the D3 series have awesome ergonomics and just feel nice to use. They also have really good colours (The Canon 5D, 1Diii and 1DSiii do skin tones better in my opinion).
The D700 is a bit over rated but solid in good light. The D3 is effectively the same but nicer as long as you don't have to carry it around much. A D300 is about the same but you lose a stop of low light ability
The D3X is still a great studio camera for that sort of work.
Excellent. That is a very good price. You might find it has some hot pixels so it would be worth doing the cleaning function trick to map them out.My finger slipped on a D3s when I wasn't strong enough to resist. Looks in decent enough nick and under 125k shots for just £300. Seems like a bargain to me.
Now to convince the other half I've always had it...
What's this trick? I've never heard of itit would be worth doing the cleaning function trick to map them out.
