Anyone here uses and likes Batis lens? Would you still recommend Batis lens in 2026?
I'm thinking of buying Batis 25mm for a7cii. Or should I look for different option around 24mm focal length.

There's better options these days
I'd pick one of samyang 24mm f1.8 or sigma 24mm f2 if you want smaller size

Or even Sony 24GM, which is available at really great prices and not much bigger than batis 25

Personally find batis lenses to be larger for the aperture they offer by current standards

Hi, perhaps I should have added that I write only about gear I own and use.

I have another 25mm lens, the ZEISS Biogon 2,8/25 Leica M mount, and two 24mm lenses, the Leica Elmarit 2,8/24 asph. and the Leica Elmar 3,8/24.

Based on my experience with these lenses, I would say the BATIS is a good lens.

But I do not own the lenses mentioned above ... ---

Don't get me wrong batis is certainly a great lens. Considering OP is wanting to buy one now, there are better options available. Technology advances :)

Yep, I've watched this video about 5-6 times in last year. I had one on a7c in the past for a short time, but I think it would be better on a7cii now. I hope.
I dont want GM - 350g is max I want to put on that body, strictly family travel photos. I have Zf for fun :)

I will be getting new Sigma 20-60mm wee zoom as my one-lens kit. Batis would be for indoors, usual daily stuff, like food and my keyboards.
I prefer 24-25mm FL. Normally 90% of my photos are 20-21mm.

Having owned the samyang myself that's the one I'd pick, fantastic small lens.

Sigma is heavier than 350g but also beautifully crafted of the three.

Batis is certainly a great lens, a probably a lot more contrasty than the other two. It's lighter than sigma but 50% heavier than samyang and also the thickest of the three.
Also for indoors you get a wee bit more light with samyang.

I had Samyang 24/1.8 - I did not like how it felt in hands. It was like playing with a toy, very fraguile one. IQ was fine, but I returned it after 1st day. ALso had Batis in the past and loved the feel of that plastic edges of the lens, so silky, but tough.

I had Sigma 35/2 from that series - phenomenal craftsmanship, top build quality, but yes, on a heavy side. So sharp though! I had that nice "3d pop" with Sigma 35/2.

Also had Sigma 24/3.5, great little lens, ideal size and weight, 1:2 macro, aperture rign! Awesome. But, as I'm getting Sigma 20-60mm, I will have that focal lenght covered with darker f.
25/2 would be my everyday lens. Sony 24G (which I also had in the past) is amazingly sharp, great contrast. This is why I'm on the edge - had both lens, want one now - Batis for its colors and cotrast, f2 light and Batis plastic :), Sony for its size, aperture ring, but f is 2.8.

I may also get a Sigma 17/4...

If you had all of those then you know the answer to your question :D

Personally don't much care for "the feel", I prioritise practicality. Though the sigma does genuinely feel very nice in hand.

I've used the samyang in rain and snow, it's fine. It's not fragile. It's just very light. In fact handles cold weather much better than metal case lenses.
All i can say is heft doesn't equal quality.

Sigma 17mm does look very nice indeed. Personally have gone with Sony 16mm f1.8 for the aperture. It's not as small as sigma but it's still pretty small.

Yeah, I may consider Samy lens, as I do prioritise now weight over anythign else (unless its crap lens like Viltrox 20/2.8).
I'm not a pro photographer, so I can imagine why you guys pick G or GM lens over anything else.
I only shoot on holidays with my family plus some home photos (food, keyboards, computers etc).

I was on holiday in September (Italy) and it was oo hot (38-40C) that I could not even pull my Nikon Zf with zoom lens out of the bag, I hate heat like that and it simply took away whole pleasure of taking photos. Kit was too heavy, that is why I decided to sell all my gear and get small body, like a7cii.

Have you actually got or tried the Viltrox 20mm? It's not a bad lens at all. My copy is as good in the corners as most other lenses (unless you seriously pixel-peep) and flare is nowhere near as bad as the "gurus" say. Plus it's excellent value for money.

Yes, I had one, right after it was released. I took it to Rome, mounted on Zf, tried to take a photo little bit against the sun - there was no way to avoid flaring, I thought I'm gonna smash it on a side walk... One photo and back on sale. Plus, even worse feeling of cheap plastic toy-lens than Samyangs.

I dont understand why Nikon cannot make compact lens like that. It would be nice to have SE verions of muffing lens, like 24mm, 20mm, maybe even 18mm - they could be all f2.8.
But noooooo, Nikon has to make bricks, huge brick-heavy tubes with ton of glass...

Sounds like you had a completely different lens to mine. Maybe you should have got the Sony version :D

If you were running Nikon they would have been bankrupt years ago :ROFLMAO: You obviously don't understand the physics of making a wide angle f/2.8 lens.

The current 28 & 40 are not bricks, very light and decent quality. There's the 26mm pancake too that's decent.

It's also ironic that you're leaning towards Batis that are not light.

It doesn't seem to be a popular choice but I have the Sony 24mm f2.8 G. I have two mini G's, the other being the 40mm f2.5. They are IMO good little lenses with good build and aperture rings.

I dont know where did you get the idea that I'm calling SE compact lens bricks...
I was talking about Nikon's other lens, in general, they make huge and heavy lens, comapred to other brands, in general.
I know the physics, if you think I don't, then obviously you didn't understand what I wrote.

I had 28SE and 40SE and these were awesome. Had 26mm as well, but did not like the motors, too loud and had terrible hood solution, which wasnt holding on the lens too great.

I mentioned Batis cause I like the way its built (not everyone likes Batis build) plus higher contrast/saturation of those lens in general, compared to others.

yep, I had those two exact lens in the past and have to say they were amazing. Only thing that should be corrected on them was price - everyone agreed when they released it that the price of all G muffin lens was a bit too high. But, as most of the peeps, I also bought it used, which is again, great buy.
That is why I'm may just pick up 24G, Batis losses this battle with its size and weight.

Hi, there is one thing I would like to mention about BATIS bokeh, which is also mentioned in the review above.

I just wanted to mention this. One could call it a feature ...

Yes, for years people complained about bokeh balls on those lens. Not ideal, I agree.
Thank you for your sample photos.
