upgrading for point and shoot

hi all so im upgrading from point and shoot camera to dlsr as starting to get the bug I understand that there is a very wide range of cameras to choose from, my thinking rightly or wrongly, would be to go for a used camera body and buy a couple lenses to suit ive looked at the entry level...
