Hi all,

Someone I know through work has contacted me as she wants to get back in photography and is buying her first dslr.

Max budget is £400, and I have mentioned trying them out to see how they feel first.

She is thinking of the Sony A290, but seen threads on here that suggest other sony's etc.

Jessops are showing the Canon 1000D for around £350.

Nikon D5000 and 18-55mm VR is around £450 new, and obviously less used - a very good camera.....

one womans meat is another womans poison ... , if the lady in question has large hands then a Canon XXD would suit far better than a Canon XXXD :)

If she's getting back then would she have a rough idea of what she wants to shoot? Should make choosing lenses that bit easier.

My wife just got a new Canon 1000D and she's really pleased with it.

She only bought that and the UV filter from the shop. Memory cards and bags are much cheaper online!!

Argos outlet on Ebay is doing the EOS 450D with 18-55 for £359 delivered at the minute. Probably a step up for all the usual starter models.
