1100D, whats it like please from people who own it or know it?

Got my eyes on the Canon 1100D, anyone who owns this camera tell me what it's like please? Many thanks.
 
it's a decent enough starter DSLR but then they all are these days.
Have you handled it & it did it seem comfortable & easy for you use?

You might want to consider looking at a s/h higher level model as that would usually get you better build/ergonomics, AF & a few extra features.

Also think about the type of photos that you take & the price/availability of suitable lenses (e.g. both Nikon & Sony do inexpensive 35/1.8s but iirc Canon don't [yet ;)]).

Hi, I looked at both models and i thought the Canon was more button friendly. I went into Jessops and they wanted me to spend £600 because they said I had to get a 4GB card and a bag. :gag:

I got the best deal from London Camera Exchange, who said I could start off by using a 2GB card until I had saved up for a bigger card. Also I will get the camera insured, and I could probably pick up a bag at a later date in Argos etc. What do you think?

I do landscape photography and some night :)
 
There are some good deals about, always worth checking on CPB before making any purchases..
 
Cards - shop around online. You should find a decent 8-16GB one around £20-30. Forget 2-4gb - too low. Forget high street - far too expensive.

Bags - many very little used ones on ebay - as you only need a small basic one for the start.

Camera - do you really need new and lowest spec? 40D is still far better camera and can be yours for well under £400. That leaves plenty for better glass. Chances are 1100d is likely to feel you short changed for a number of reasons.

I like to support local shops and I usually buy cameras from them but the price of memory cards seems to be much cheaper on line so I buy cheap but branded cards from a couple of good name on line dealers and I've never had a problem.

Bags are much cheaper on line too although I have bought several from photographic shops and I've also bought several from the likes of ASDA and Aldi and they're proved to be perfectly good.

Also looking at the Pentax K-r, how does that compare to the Canon please?
 
imo it's a nicer better vfm body.
For certain things there will be less availability of accessories & lenses (particularly 300mm+) compared to Canon, Nikon & Sony but as you are landscape-orientated that's probably not a problem & they do have a lot of primes that may well suit you.
 
I've had my 1100d for a few weeks and it seems like a very good starter camera. Of course in time you will probably want to upgrade (who doesn't:))
I also looked at the nikon 3100 and the pentax but to me the canon just felt better. In terms of spec they are all very similar so it comes down to how it feels to you.
I paid about £420 from pc world as a deal including an 8gb card and a lowpro bag.
I have since brought a Tamron 70-200 lens (O.K.), a canon 50mm 1.8f (brilliant for the money), Polaroid macro tubes:thumbs: and a second hand Metz af50 flash.:thumbs:

As for what comes in the box, well you get the camera and a kit 18-55 lens (not is:razz:), neck strap, battery charger, pc/mac usb lead and software on cd. (camera drivers and basic image editor/raw converter)

Now if I could just buy some time I might be able to get out and use it more.:)
 
I think alot have cover and said this already.

Memory card - You can buy online i.e Amazon. 8GB Sandisk Class 10 cost around £15 and the shop sell the same card for like £40-80, really ripped off and don't buy in shop

Bag - You can find the exact same bag selling online for half of the price that the shop sells, so buy online again

Camera - Depends, sometimes shop sells for decent price. Maybe a tad higher but you get the item instant so sometimes i buy lens and camera in shop but you have to shop around to find out.

Now talking about the Canon camera. When they say starter kit is not really starter kit ...... strap, battery, charger, usb cable etc is standard on all camera these days now ......
I personally would suggest buying used because you soon will out grown the camera and you will end up buying another camera in a year or two, same as lens as well.

Look for a 40-50D used and you will be one happy man.
 
I bought the 1000d earlier this year but bought a second hand 1d mk2 this month, unless you are strong willed you will want an upgrade
