18-55 and 55-250 for a 600d or just an 18-135?

Hi,

Sorry if this has been covered before. I have got an 18-55mm kit lens and I am already thinking about getting a 55-250mm. Would I be better off just selling the 18-55mm and getting the 18-135mm instead?

I guess it depends on my specific needs just really wondering how the quality compares.
 
55-250 would give you a far nicer focal range, including everything on the other lens, giving you more versatility. I'd say go for that instead of selling the kit lens (which isn't worth a great deal!) and just having 1 lens.
 
I would recomend getting the 55-250mm, Its a cracking lens for the money and will give you extra reach. As for getting a 18-135mm instead you wont notice any real difference in quality from the kit lens, For that you would be better getting a Canon EF-S 15-85mm lens instead if you want a noticable difference in picture quality.
 
I would go 18-55IS and 55-250IS, both lenses receive good reviews and you would have more reach at the long end.

I've also seen a lot of criticism in reviews and from users of the 18-135 both for (a lack of) sharpness, barrel distortion and noticeable chromatic aberration.

The 55-250 is a cracker and the 18-55 IS is pretty good too. :thumbs:
 
I have the 55-250 and have been very happy with it, IMO give sharper results than the 18-55is
 
I have the 18-135 and a 55-250.

I end up just using the 55-250 when I want to go to the zoo, or photograph birds etc.

However, I would like to move to something like a 15-85 and 70-200L / 70-300L in the future.
 
I read on another thread that there are only cosmetic differences between the mkI and mkII versions of the 55-250mm, is that right?

Yes, they altered the cosmetics so it was a match for the mkll version of the 18-55.
