Well Today i became the proud owner of a used 1D MKII,i'm very pleased with it but i've noticed it doesn't come close to the 40 jpeg burst i'm supposed to get,If i drop the iso down to 100 i get at most 27,Is it 40 burst at Small Jpegs?Or am i missing something,Don't get me wrong i'm happy with the 27 burst but it could just be a simple newbie error

Hopefully some of you with MKII's can help me,Thanks

What memory card are you using? :)

Crap,Would that make a difference?Assumed it was all written onto the buffer?

I've got Sandisk Ultra II 2gb and an Adata Turbo 266x 2gb

Probably a card issue. Good explanation HERE.

Cheers for that but it's not what i mean,

My camera is meant to have a burst of 40 frames(which according to the link are all written to the buffer first)so it should get 40,I'm wondering do others get 40 on large Jpeg files and if so it might be something in the menus etc

I had a 1DMK2n and I never had reason to push the buffer to that extent, but then again, I rarely use continuous shooting and when I do it tends to be in bursts of 2 or 3 shots at most.

Don't you get a reading in the bottom right of your viewfinder (in the form of a number) which indicates max continuous shot capability at any time?

I'd think battery charge/condition has a lot to do with this and perhaps a new battery would make the difference?

I noticed the specs on dpreview for the 1dmk2 N have "JPEG: up to 48 images (JPEG quality 8)". So i'm guessing thats the settings Canon quotes the mk2 at as well.

When i have large jpg set at quality 10 on my mk2N the burst counter goes down to 31, so 27 sounds about right to me for the Non-N mk2 if it has it's jpg quality at 10.
You could try putting the jpg quality for L size down to 9 or 8, it doesn't make any discernable difference from what i've seen to image quality.

I've always shot in raw with a buffer of 22 which i've rarely got to, even when shooting action. Even if you do fill the buffer, the 1-series is really good at not locking you out. After partially emptying it you can shoot at full speed again.

you can get the full frame rate but you have to reduce the jpeg quality right down and shoot small size jpeg, i tried it and my camera phone takes a better shot at that size and quality, i can't think of any occasion i've needed to shoot more than 12 in a burst

Yeah i always have "27" shown there,

Perfect!Found that Jpeg setting last night and now after reducing it i've got it up to 31/33 on the 9/8 quality setting and bringing it down to 1 i get 40 frames :)

Issue resolved now :D
