I currently have a 30D and a 1D MkIII and I would really like a camera with movie facility.

I only use for light amateur use and I am wondering if I should sell the 1D and replace it with a 7D?

I originally bought the 1D as I was having problems with focusing speed with the 30D+100-400mm, but I now realise its the 100-400 thats the problem.

I would appreciate feedback and opinions.

Yes that did cross my mind. With such a wide range now, I wonder how far up the model range I would need to go to get a replacement which does everything the 30D does?
 
I had a Mk3 and now have a 7D, to be honest i dont think ive ever used the movie mode on the 7d. I prefer the ergonomics of the 1 series opposed to a gripped 7d. The 7d has a lot of features the Mk3 doesnt, better live view, imho more advanced AF, better high iso, video etc

If i had the cash id go to a Mk4 as id get all the features of the 7D in a better package.

This is why I suggested upgrading the 30D. People find it very difficult to move back to the 7D style body from the 1D. The 550D has the same sensor as the 7D so should give similar movie performance, although I am another one who doesn't use movie mode very often on my 7d.

Thank you, One thing which is a must is to be able to use my 17-55mm EFS. I am not too sure otherwise. I really must read up on the other models.

Looks like the 550d is quite well thought of in the video forum here and would work perfectly with your 17-55.
 
Thank you all very much for thfeedback. I wouldn't hesitate on the 7D if I could make some money out of my photography. :)
