1D3 or 7D as a backup body to 1D4

Yes
I recently got a second hand 1D4 & love it (if you know what I mean).

Still have my 1D3.

I am starting to do more work now for DE Photo and am trying to decide what to do with the 1D3.

1) Sell it and just keep the 1D4 - it's not as if I'm earning a fortune.

2) Keep it as a backup body in case of 1D4 failure or if I want 2 bodies with different lenses.

3) Swap it for a gripped 7D for extra reach and lighter 2nd body for holidays/parties.

Any thoughts appreciated.

The extra reach the 7D offers will certainly be useful for cricket etc...

Keep the mk3 as its basically the same menu/setup as mk4. I still have two mk3's which I use for football and most other sports. I keep the mk4 for really low light stuff such as ice skating.

Keep the 1D3. I have a IV and III combo and it works very well. You can swap seamlessly between the two without getting confused. There won't be that much difference in weight to a 7D, and if it rains you'll be glad you've got the 1D.

All the comments above are true but the MK3 does not give you anything different to your MK4......The 7D does ....Yes it has different menus and it is not quite as robust but it does have the extra crop factor.

If you need the same ...then the MK3.... if you want something extra, then the 7D ....

MKIII makes more sense to me...

I kept my MkIII

Thanks all.
