1Ds II V 5D ?

I haven't ever actually had my hands on the 1ds but the general consensus I've seen on forums is that whilst the focus may be better the 5D has much better IQ than the MKII and slightly better than the MkIII.

I've owned both 5D and 1Ds2, the 5D has better noise control at high ~ISO but everything else the 1Ds2 dominates, the 5D mkII I have no idea about.

I think your confusing yourself. The 1D is the 1.3x crop pro body for sports, the 1Ds is the full frame pro body.

The ISO performance of the 5D v the 1D MkII might be more in the favour of the 5D I/II bodies, but I would still rather have my 1D MKIIn on autofocus performance alone.

As for the 1Ds MKII or MKIII. Both bodies handle ISO very well and to suggest a semi pro bodies like the 5D I/II are better than the 1Ds MKII and slightly better than the 1Ds MkIII, forget it........:bang:  both these camera would knock seven bells of £$"~ out of the 5D bodies.

The only think the 5D's would win on is price, the 1Ds MKII (used) and MKIII (new) ain't chicken feed.

I thought I put 1ds? Which is full frame. The non s models are the 1.3x?

I have both :)

The guys are right, there are good and bad points about both. The 5D is a great little camera and it very much depends what you want to use them for. The 1DsII autofocus blows the 5D away. They have very comparable ISO performance topping out at 1600 and in the real world there is little to choose between the two.

The build quality, weatherproofing, extra shutter button for portraits and autofocus would have me with a 1Ds any day of the week. But if I want to travel light or shoot one handed then the 5D it is.

Depends on your needs though. :)

But to suggest the 5D MKI / MKII (£800 used / £1800) IQ's are better than the 1Ds MKIII pro body (£4500), I would love to see which forums have suggested this, because it's not what I've read.

For the money the 5D MKI / II give you great performance for you $$$, but performance wise the 1Ds all the way.

It was Canon actually ........

To quote Canon's original 5D Mark II press release, "The EOS 5D Mark II achieves the highest level of image quality of any EOS Digital SLR released to date."

I had three 5Ds & sent them all back in the end I added the 1DMKIIn to my kit & dumped any thought of the 5D it was a toy camera to me. When you have used 1 series camera there is no going back down to toys.

Well I'd be interested to hear more of your unhappy experiences. One would be plain unlucky but three?

 Well i like my toy........you could always get a real camera like the NIKON D3S if you like large high performance Pro bodies.
