24-70 & 70-200 or 17-55 & 50-150?

Yes
The 24-70 & 70-200 combo has always been considered to be a good pairing, but doesn't give much in the way of wide coverage on crop sensor bodies. So do you think that a 17-50 & 50-150 will get as enthusiastic a following in the future? I was just curious as Canon do the apparently excellent EFS 17-55 2.8 complete with IS, and Sigma and Tamron both do an equivalent 2.8 lens. But only Sigma do the longer zoom at the moment.

(Also curious as I'll soon have the fun of spending quite a bit on lenses etc for weddings, and keep getting pulled between the 24-70 2.8L and the 17-55 2.8 with IS);)

The 50-150 is a brilliant little lens, it is small and light and comparable to the sigma 70-200. i believe tamron have a 50-150 on the market as well.

the problem with it, is the cropped sensor only. a lot of people seem intent on the full body versions as it is useable on the 5d and 1d cameras.

i have the sigma 24-70 and the 50-150, i think it is a lovely combination and the slight overlap doesnt bother me at all, depending on which one im using, ill use both ends of either.

I think if you want wide and you're using crop sensor then you'll have to go with the 17-55mm, but the Canon 24-70 is a stunning lens from what I'm reading virtually every where.

I ended up with the 10-20, 24-70 & 70-200. I often find that 200mm is too short (motors/birds) so the 150 would be even worse :)

ah, but follow it up with a 100-400 and you got ebverything sorted. i have to admit i find the 50-150 slightly short sometimes, but by more than 50mm.

Ok so its on a nikon DX, but I also have the 10-20/24-70/50-150 combo, and it covers everyday eventuallities without breaking my back lugging it around. For those occasions when something longer is needed, I also have the 120-300 and a 1.4 TC though its certainly not a 'walkabout' option ;)

oh, and because its all sigma, the 1.4 fits the 50-150, giveing somehting just north of 200mm at F4 for those 'just in case' scenarios.

I have a 50-150, and nothing other than the kit lens for upto 50mm, but I'm getting a 35mm next week so that should cover it.

The 50-150 is amazing, I have lots of shots with it on my flickr. I've also got the TC 1.4 which takes it to 70-210 f4 which is still pretty fast.

got a 50-150, which is nice though prob not as nice as nikon 70-200 but a hell of a lot cheaper. coupled with a 35 fixed its fine for most of what i do but have considered getting a 24-70, i also think the overlap would be fine.
