Thinking of getting a 2nd body identical to mine, for when I second at weddings next year....... at the moment I can get body only for £639 (£729 and £90 cashback if I purchase between now and end of the year.)

Now whilst this is a pretty good price, I am wondering in times of economic recession, and people tightening their belts as Christmas approaches etc etc... whether people think there will be any movement (preferably in a downwards direction) of DSLR's / lenses... or has the market already bottomed out for the year?

Ideally my window would be post xmas "sale" with "presents" being universal gift vouchers (cash) or vouchers towards it, hence I would have about 4 days post xmas to purchase, hoping for a bit more off....
 
I'd say wait and see, Lynton...

If you don't need a second body between now and Xmas, then what would have to lose by waiting? If you think it might just come in handy, then why not get some more memory as a stop-gap, which you'll need anyway when the new body comes through...

True, I won't need it until next year (april at the moment) so good advice.

Already have more Gb of memory than I know what to do with.... seem to get lots of stocking filler 4 Gb cards.... :shrug:


Reason for a second body is twofold

1) In case a camera dies on me.
2) Much easier to have say 17-70 on one body and 50-150 on the other than faffing around swapping lenses.....

(Plus, two cameras makes you obviously a much better photographer.... ;)) - for the Uncle Bob's! :lol:;)
 
SRS have a weekend sale on atm .. K-5 body £699 with a 8gb card and free postage to PU members. So £609 effectively.

Dont think it will drop again until the cashback finishes and it certainly wont be a £90 drop.

Edit: By April I reckon Ricoh will have announced a new body so prob worth waiting anyway ... would imagine it will use the new 24MP Sony sensor.

If you can get 'presents' towards your camera and you can also get £90 cashback, I'd wait til Christmas and then buy it.

I agree with daugirdas that great sales on the bodies didn't really materialise, but you never know they maybe offering other incentives ?
