I'm using a DX body with 24-70ƒ2.8 and 50ƒ1.4
I find that my 50mm is too long in doors and my ƒ2.8 is just too bulky and slow.
I'm thinking of getting the 35 mm ƒ2.0
I would be using this lens to photography my kids in the house messing about. I prefer head/shoulders shots for the kids at close quarters. will this lens deliver the goods, or is it just too close to my 50mm?
Can't alter the typo in the title :-(
Is the sigma 30mm f1. 4 worth the extra?

The 35mm f/1.8 is a better lens, cheaper too (only works on DX though).

The sigma is meant to be a great lens too but I've never used it.
 
If you are talking about the Nikon 35mm f/2 AF-D, it will only autofocus on some DX bodies - D7000, D300, D300s, D50, D70 etc.

The Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX is a fantastic lens, and it has a stellar reputation for good reason.

The Sigman 30mm f/1.4 is also a well regarded lens, however you have to decide whether the extra half a stop of speed is worth paying twice the price of the Nikon f/1.8.
 
It might not just be the extra stop?

The Siggy has HSM, which is very nice, plus lens markings and you get a hood and a case. And it's a very nice lens :D

Extra half a stop - and the Nikon has an extremely silent and accurate AF-S motor, and also comes with a hood and case.
 
Played with a 35mm f1.8 (170ukp ish from jessops online) and owned a bad copy of the sigma 30mm for a while (a week)(around 200ukp used - nearer 400 new)

Sample pics from the 30mm are on the flick links - need to dig around to the sets.

the 35mm was pics of people, so wont be on there yet. Very tempting lens though.
