35mm Film Recomendations - Motorsport Action, Bright Days? Goodwood Revival

Hey All!

I'll be attending the Revival and Members meetings again this year. (Hooray!)

However I find myself wondering what film is best to use given the often harsh September sunlight and on-track action. I'm actually trying to pick up another cheap AE-1 to load one up with B&W and another with colour film in order to chop and change when walking through the paddocks and wanting to grab period looking shots of the thousands of fantastic people who dress up each year!

Any tips or advice is welcomed! I have 28mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm lenses so all the bases are covered but not too sure which ISO films to use for bright, on track action.

Thank you! :)

Sorry I missed this post Jake.... I rarely venture to some of the subforums on TP.

I did Revival (all three days) and one day of 78MM and I have many satisfactory images from the 4 days at the track.

I would've suggested high speed film for the trackside, 400 or 800 - the 85 or 135 mm would be sufficient for frame filling shots at various points along the track - high speed just to get the cars sharp as they speed past. For paddock areas, slower film for sure just to get the details - avoid harsh sunshine as everything goes all contrasty, and the 28 and 50 would be perfect...

I only took my film camera once and the highest speed film I had was 400 IIRC. This year I actually rationalised the amount of kit I took and went down to a 24-70/2.8 and 70-200/2.8. Previously I took my Nikkor 80-400 or 200-500 and found myself using the 80-400 at its widest end most of the time....

let us know how you got on.... I might miss 79MM as I might be abroad but definitely Revival in 2022

I used to use 400 ASA film before I went digital (for motorsport, mainly at Castle Combe).

Like Peter, I missed this back in July!

Cheers guys

I used HP5 and Kodak Gold, possibly even portra and was pleased with a good few shots. These are just some, straight from the scans. I do need to get my head around using lightroom.
