IIRC it's about 1.3kgs, It's just me Pete, I have disabilities so it was too heavy for me.

I have just sold my D750 and some lenses and I am going to re-buy with the 24-120mm f4 lens (works out cheaper to rebuy) and see how I get on, then look again at longer lenses. I may try the Tamron 70-300 VC again for going out and buy a longer lens for home use on a tripod. I back onto woodland so have a load of wildlife in my garden and the sky above. I get to see Buzzards and Kites most days, along with the odd Peregrine plus the regular garden birds.

Your lucky think I'd get the tamron 600 in your situation, the weight not such a problem on tripod, still thinking about that one but not sure I'd want to lug it around, still considering swapping for a 70d and 400 5.6 l? Oh decisions decisions :-) the tamron 70 300 vc great for the zoo or something like that but I found its short comings yesterday

As you know, for birding it's all about the reach, it's one of the reasons most people put a 1.4TC on the Nikon 300mm lens. Would you lose too much money selling up now and going back to Canon. I will probably buy the Tamron or Sigma 600mm version when finances allow. Was hoping to have done it by now, but had to dip into my lens fund for season tickets and wife didn't have the bonus we were hoping for.
 
Again the sigma weighs a lot, for walking around a lot it might get on my.nerves. I love the D7100 and d700 so I'd might be cutting my nose off to spite my face.if I swapped it all,difficult decision. :-o
 
Been out again today for a couple of hours and I must retract a comment about the tamron 70 300 not being up to the job, it is. The problem is the reach so I'm now thinking the 300 f4 with a tc might well not be enough. So I might just get a cheap 500mm and see how that goes, can always resell and get the tamron 600, it's cheaper and far lighter than the sigma and may well be what I really need.
I forgot I've still got the tokina 80-400 so I'll see how that does with a monopod.
