40D Freezing

On two separate occasions I have had the new 40D freeze on me for no apparent reason. The metering did not show in the viewfinder. Although Live view had not been selected previously, it will permit exposures if Live view is chosen but will not react to the shutter release in "normal" use. It seem to have been cured by selecting Clear user functions to restore original settings and removing and re-inserting the battery - a pain in the middle of a children shoot in a school this afternoon!

Any ideas?

Have reported to Canon - given incident number and it says they will be in contact within 2-3 days!

sounds like a pain in the ass! hopefully if its a problem with all 40Ds they might be able to fix it through software updates.
