40D question

Could a 40D owner confirm something for me please...

On my 30D I use CF4 set 1 which separates AF and exposure lock. The * button activates AF whilst a half press on the shutter locks the exposure.

I had a play with a 40D in Jessops today and had a quick scan through the custom functions but couldn't find anything similar - does it still exist or do you have to use the new AF-ON button which would mean buying the new grip rather than using the one from my 30D.

I would have asked the guy in Jessops but gave up all hope when having asked for a lens to try on the body he proceeded to remove a kit lens from the Nikon D80 :bang: :bonk:

In a nutshell can I use the * button to trigger AF on the 40D as I currently do on my 30D?

LOL - I had to read the manual.

C.Fn IV -1
During Autofocus, you can press the <AF-On> button to stop autofocussing.

I saw that too but it's not what I want - I want to press/hold the * button to start AF.

C.Fn IV-2
The functions of the AF-On and * buttons will be switched with each other.

Does that help?
