40D shutter gone belly up for a 2nd time

Out with the cameras yesterday and my 40D's shutter has gone belly up for the 2nd time
first time it had done only 20.000 clicks this time its done 65.000

was £160 last time any one done a 40d lately... and what is the damage likely to be

I'd be tempted to just ebay it as it is 'unlucky' copy and pick up a more durable 7D or maybe 1D

already got a 1Dmk2N along with a 5d3
dont reckon I would get very much selling my 40D with the shutter not working

I'd try and see if you can get some kind of discount on the repair from canon as 2 shutters failing before a total of 100k is pretty disappointing.

I would agree with this - definitely worth speaking with Canon and eloquently describing your frustration with two shutter failures at those modest actuations.

I might have some bargaining power as I have some other bits that need fixing as well so might get a bit of discount
the hood on my 400mm F5.6 Lens the rubber seal has broken jamming the hood solid wont move at all
it has been like that for about two years so seen as the camera has to go back - get the lot done

and item 3 is my Canon 1.4x mk2 converter which I dropped onto hard stone about 4 years ago and it worked fine till 6 months ago but it is battered and bruised but as I said worked great till it decided to pack up altogether

so it will be interesting to see how much they will charge me for the 3 items

just rejoined Canon CPS service so I get a quicker turnaround I was a member for about 10 years till I let it lapse a couple of years ago but I like the not having to wait very long as compared to waiting 6 weeks plus as a non member

A small update to this thread
really must take my hat of to Canon at Elstree they got my 3 items
and charged the following
Lens new hood and gromit ring and serviced it checked autofocus £120

canon 40d
new shutter new mirror assembly new rear lcd glass new eyepiece new plate with serial number (old one worn away) new square plate box whatever that is
cleaned and serviced £160

canon 1,4x converter £52 must add the converter has not come back yet but very pleased with what they have done the camera has come back like new bar the few wear marks here and there
the rear LCD only had a minor scuff on it and I inquired how much they would charge and they have put it on for the same price

cannot reccomend them highly enough far better than the Stoke firm
