Hi all,

Thinkig of getting a 430Ex flash. Can I use this flash off camera, if so, do I need to buy anything extra. How does it know when to fire.

I have a canon 400d

Thanks

you can trigger it off camera:
a) 580EX on camera
b) remote flash cable
c) wireless trigger

what are you trying to do?

ps what you can't do is trigger it from the on-camera flash, (shame really)

Ahhh,

Thats what i though. Wanted to have a go at some macro stuff, some of those funky smoke trails. Just generally play around with lighting really....

Any recomendations on the
b) remote flash cable
c) wireless trigger

Thnks

fleabay has lots
search in the lighting thread
I went down the 580 route, so don't have 1st hand info on the other 2 - soz:shrug:

You can also get an off camera camera cord for about £45. This gives you the same functions as though the camera was still connected to the flash. It's limited in that you can only get the flash about 2 ft from the camera.

Opps beaten to the punch

I bought a Jessops off flash cord which supports TTL.. from memory I used one of their codes and got it for around £25. This was some time back, but it works very well.

ive used a trusty (lol) ebay flash trigger with my 430, seems to work ok.

used it to get this affect
