how does the 50D compare against a 1DMKII as an upgrade form a 450D??

which would best and why

1D AF is much better, and 1D will survive much harsher conditions (weather sealed lens needed). I would expect nothing less than perfect A3 printouts from it.

50D has a lovely super saturated screen, light weight, 'modern' technology, and shed loads of mp for heavy cropping (if in focus, and not too noisy)

i.e. 1D for pro jobs and 50D for casual snapping.
 
Guess it depends if you need the "modern" technologies such as Live view etc. Coming from 450D which has the "modern" technologies you should know if they are essential to you? If they are get the 50D, it is a great camera, if they are not then 1D mkII is logical choice :)
 
As you shoot sports and I've seen your camera bag... spend the money on glass..then upgrade the body.. yes its unusual for me to say that but a 70-200 F2.8 and a 1.4X extender would give you more benefit than putting your lenses on a 50D or 1Dmk11.
 
I've just gone from a 450D to a 1D2, once you've worked out the menu and control systems you'll be very pleased with it, the 1D just feels infinitely better built (and before I got it I didn't think the 450d was badly built but this is in another league). The AF is much faster, the frame rate is much higher etc.

Just remember that a 50D would take any EF-S lenses you had whereas a 1D wouldn't, I was forced (kicking and screaming I hasten to add) to go and buy a bag full of L glass to go with the 1D. I am only just getting over the torment :naughty:
 
It depends what you mainly shoot. :shrug:

I bought a 1DMK2n as soon as it hit the market, but got rid of it when I realised it was being murdered in the cropping stakes by the 20D, so not for me as a primarily wildlife shooter I'm afraid.
 
just had a quick read of the replies there and thanks all

i should off updated my camera back. I have 70-200 f4 now. and was hoping to buy a 1dMKII in the for sale section. but that thread didnt go to well.

so more time now decide next plan of action. might look in to 1.4xextender and start selling a few items firstly the tamron.
