50mm lens for Nikon D3000

I am looking for a 50mm portrait lens for my Nikon D3000, and am confused at which one to go for. I will mainly be using this to take some photos of my 1 year old in low light conditions, especially as would exist in the winter. I am looking for one that would auto-focus on my camera.

I found the f/1.4 AF-S which is quite expensive and the f/1.8 AF-S G that sells for about £180. Are there any alternatives out there that is compatible with my camera like Sigma/Tamron etc, which are less expensive than the Nikkors? What would you recommend? Is the f/1.4 worth the money, or would a cheaper alternative be almost as good?

Please advise.
 
The 1.8 AFS/G would be perfect and at £180 is a bargain IMO
 
Sigma do a 50mm f/1.4, but you might as well choose the Nikon.
The new Nikon 50mm f/1.8 is supposed to be good, but you might find you are better off with the slightly shorter 35mm f/1.8. The 50 can sometimes be too long indoors.
